Hello all,
My name is Patrick, and I am addicted to fishing. I do most of my fishing from the beach, but have recently discovered the wonders of fishing from a kayak. I am now a full convert, however I do not have a dedicated fishing kayak. I am using a tandem that my lady and I bought at Costco that I have outfitted with a crate and rod holders from West Marine. I work in Muir Beach, so all of my outing have taken place there so far, but I hope to go explore much more of the California coast very soon. I have lurked these boards for some time now and have been impressed by the sense of community you folks have created. Most forums are full of trolls and asshats spewing insults and misinformation, but you guys/gals are full of encouragement and advice. So thanks for all of the free info, and I hope to be a member who contributes lots of useful information in the future.

Our trolls and asshats are of a different stripe. That's for sure.

I like too fish too. Went out today for a few hours.
You are in good company, some great guys in your neck of the woods and what Willha said. Come up to Sonoma and fish with us.

Welcome.
Btw, "asshat" is one of my all-time favorite words. I'm going to have to try to work that into my everyday conversation more...

Again, I find myself strangely sympatico with Man from Nowhere. Though a relative recently acquired appelation for me, "Asshat" has a certain undeniable flair.
I, too, will endeavor contextual inclusion vis a vis my quotidian nomenclature.

Hi Patrick, great to meet you. I too have recently come across a Costco tandem kayak and have become hooked (with the idea) of kayak fishing. Would love to hear how your big craft has been paddling in the water! I live relatively close, maybe we could hook up sometime!

This will certainly add a whole 'nother dimension to your Santa Cruz Sentinel Fish Rap...

Thanks for all of the kind replies. I would love to come up to Sonoma and fish with you boys. Perhaps you could put me on to some Halibut?!?!?!?!?! They are the Moby to my Ahab and have spent many days tossing all kinds of things on the end of my hook in an effort to entice one into my freezer. But alas I am still Halibut-less...
"Asshat", or is it "Ass-hat" is a word I learned from a tall lanky would be fireman called Adam whom I bartended with at a small brewery in Mill Valley. He employed a general disdain for any one or anything that came across his bar, and was keen on labeling all of them, Asshats. As I still work in the service industry, it is the label I assign to all of the whiners I encounter.
As I am new to this forum, I have some noob-ish questions I would like to lay on you:
I have a sit in kayak that I would like to post to our classifieds board but I do not see a "New Post" button. Is this because my post count is too low?
Also, I would very much like to find a single person kayak that I can use for fishing that wont break the bank. What in your educated opinions is the most effective and least expensive rig that I can get?
Again thanks for all of the warm welcomes, I am excited to get more involved with NCKA.

Bushy,
You're a genius...
I may have to change my handle.

You honor me, sir!
I think it's 10 posts or 20 posts, then classifieds become available. You figured correctly. We did this to thwart those guys who signed up just to try and sell a kayak or fishing rod.
When I saw your 'Al-justed" name, my suspicions were confirmed. You belong here. Welcome. Get ready for the ride. WTTM!!! (Acronyms thread available use the Search function.)
As for a kayak, try this:
Post a new thread. Title it "Help Your New Brother." See who has a loaner or a second or third yak that you can afford or can start using with terms for a payoff. Your yak is sitting under a tarp in someone's side yard right now, you just don't know it. NCKA is super generous, I know this will work.
A big advantage of getting a used NCKA yak is that it's likely set up to some extent with accesories like rod holder mounts, bow ropes, cool stickers and such.
