Hey everyone,

I fired up my Hook 5 yesterday (first time this season), and the GPS did not function properly... For whatever reason the unit seemed unable to get a lock on any satellites. The sonar worked fine.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any suggestions?

I tried doing a hard reset (hold “Pages” button while turning unit on). Also tried restoring to defaults. Neither worked.

Could this be caused by outdated software? (I have never updated it... Never had the need to until now. Maybe.)

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Cheers,

~Alex

There is a screen where you can see the status of satellite locking, etc.

It was showing that it had not locked into any satellites.

I didn’t dig too deep into the settings or anything since I was out there to fish. I’ll plug it in at the house when I have a minute and see if I can do some more troubleshooting...

One thing that occurred to me is that it might have been trying to read from an external antenna (which I do not have). I tried to look into that while I was on the water, but couldn’t even find where I would change that setting. That’s when I just said F it and restored to defaults, which didn’t fix it either.

It gets wet each time I use it, and then it gets wet again when I rinse off the saltwater. I shake off the excess water then let it air dry. (Same as I’ve done for years.)

So you contacted Lowrance directly and sent it in? I might have to do that...

Under settings \ system is a GPS screen. You should be able to see if it is locking onto any satellites.

Google “lowrance gps not locking.” Follow the recommendation fix. If all fails, contact liwrance and they will either fix the problem or change the unit. Same problem with mine and all good now

Yeah, I actually checked out that article while I was on the water trying to get it to work yesterday. I’ve done everything it recommends except the software update. I’ll try that, and if it doesn’t work I’ll send it in for repair/replace.

Hmm... I tried to update it yesterday evening but it didn’t work. I downloaded the update file, put it on a memory card, put the cards in the slot, and turned the head unit on. It just turned on like usual and didn’t do any kind of updating... GPS still not working.

I’ll contact Lowrance today. Looks like I’ll be fishing w/o GPS again on saturday...

My Hook5 got wet on Sunday and quit working. It was 15 mo old and it cost me 119$+ tax and shipping.  I might switch brands now after that.   I am dissatisfied with Lowrance at the moment.   Good luck on your problem and I hope it doesn’t cost you like it did me.
