Down Scan Imaging or Down Imaging does work in a shoot through kayak hull application. This debate comes up often and never seems to end. To put this debate to rest, we went to engineers at Lowrance and Humminbird to get the final word. Yes, there is a slight degradation is signal, but still, IT WORKS!

I have a foam block that is mounted with GOOP & my HDI (DSI) transducer is mount in this block with a couple spoonfulls of water. Works well & the results posted seem to be well in-line with what I have encountered testing the Elite 7 HDI unit on the water.
......but we all know this questions will come up time & time again & may never be put to rest :smt002

Here's an interesting side tidbit for you all. It's the Poly material of the kayak that contributes the most to the degradation. Whether you use Goop or a water bath makes little difference.

Thanks Allen, was considering buying the Lowrance Elite 5 HDI but was not sure about the transducer mounting. Seems like a slight loss is worth being able to shoot -thru.
