So are we bringing in dead fish or are pictures acceptable?
Pictures will be accepted as long as they are clearly visible. Fish in pictures will need to be on a Hawg Trough or sumular measuring device with the entire fish and measuring device clearly visaible in a single photo.

Received the first entries today,
I will be out of town this weekend, so I will hold off on posting the entries list till a later time.
Also,
I'm working with many potential prize sponsors, so ill post as they commit.
I was asked if there will be a benefit raffle.
As I am doing this on my own, I will have a donation can for PIF ... Unless someone would like to assume that responsibility.
Thanks again for showing interest in the first Annual Open Shelter Kayak Fishing Event.
See Ya There,

My registration is in the mail, see you again in September :)

Looks like things are moving along and the weather should be beautiful.
The Tides Inn only has two rooms available for this event, one standard room, and one Full suite.
If you are planning to book a room, call soon so you don't miss out.
Also, don't forget we offer a 30% discount for NCKA members.
This discount normally does not apply to special events, but as it is the first year and I am the one hosting,
We will apply the NCKA 30% discount to your stay during the event.
(must be active member to get discount .... 10 or more contributing posts on NCKA)

Are pachali going to be replaced on the species list since they are now closed?
-
Incase any one didnt hear, Pac-Hali are now closed for the year.
For this reason, Pac-Hali will deffinatley be eliminated from the list, but will not be replaced this late in the game.
The Captains meeting will be at the Tides Inn, if you are able to attend, it would be good to cover all the basics.

The Tides Inn is a NON-SMOKING AREA,
Eric,
A few of us will be getting together to smoke cigars after the event. I will make sure it is in a designated area and far enough away and down wind from the tides and potluck area. We don't want to offend anyone with cigar smoke.
See you soon buddy!
-
We expect to arrive in time for the meeting.
-
Heading out this afternoon.
Bring a chocolate zucchini bread and some pineapple upside-down cupcakes.
See you soon.
-
We're all packed up and will leave early am. I'll make a KFC copycat coleslaw for the pot luck. See you all soon.

I want to thank the over 50 anglers who showed up for the first annual Open Shelter kayak gathering. What a great group of people. We arose to a beautiful sky, calm winds, and light seas.
The theme of this event was relax and chill, so I was not disappointed when many chose to take their time and launch between 8 and 9am. Many fish were brought to the check in table .... or 3 wheeler as it were.
Local Legend "Lolita" Eric Stockwell showed us that there are still Salmon in the Cove, and Mr Saufferer pulled a massive 38 in. Lingcod form the depths. And the end, Mr. Byron Pickle walked away as Angler of the day with 6 species.
Good times were had by all, and we are looking forward to September 15, 2018 and the second annual Open Shelter Kayak Gathering.
See ya there,

Thanks for the report, I wanted to be there, just caught a bad cold at the wrong time. Shame Pam and I had to miss it. Scheduling good health for 2018.
-
Thank you Eric for showing us that life is good at the Cove. I enjoyed the tournament and it's format of targeting different species.
Rockfishing for me was really good. I caught several lings, blacks, cabs, olives, vermillion, chinas, and gophers.
-
Eric, looks like a great time was had by all !!! sorry i had to miss this, i won't miss it next year.
Damn it looked flat out there, What lake were you guys fishing on LOL !!!!
Congrats Byron !!!
-
Wow!! I wish I could have been there. Bro in law ask me for help moving last minute. Though to say no. I missed a good tine for sure! I will make sure to make it on 2nd one. Thanks for the pics and report.

It was a Humboldt sweep for the leader board. Pickle won, rob took second, Dominic and I tied for third.

Open Shelter 2017!
Spending time with my NCKA family and friends at The Tides and on the water at Shelter Cove rates very high for me, and this past weekend will go down as another epic Lovefest.
Thank you, Eric and Verna, and everyone who participated. Good Times! :smt001

Sarah and I had a wonderful time! I loved how laid back the whole weekend felt. Kudos Eric!
Trippy Hippies, Backpacking Germans, downed power lines on the way home.
Friday night Karaoke at the campground was the best! Y'all know how to do it up right at the cove!
Looking forward to next year already.

Thanks Yakhopper. This was a a chill event for sure. Loved it. spent the whole time at bread and butter targeting flatfish. Landed all types of flatties but PAC Hali and starry flounder. Getting a positive ID on all the different species is getting easier. Still need some work tho. It was a beautiful day otw! And great time hanging out at the Inn.
-
First off thanks Eric and Verna for the hospitality. I have always heard about Eric's tournament but never attend since I just got into the sport. It sure doesn't disappoint. He puts on a great and relaxing tournament. Just finally recovering from the weekend, 1000 miles and 18 hrs on the road was totally worth it. Even though I was hoping to end my salmon season with a big salmon at Shelter, it wasn't meant to be. I did catch my first Shelter Cove Salmon...it was just a baby at 12 inch. Where was my wasabi and soy sauce on the water lol
The weather was amazing and the ocean/wind laid down all weekend. Awesome condition vs earlier this year at GS. Night and day difference. The Cove doesn't disappoint with its Friday Karaoke...sure was fun to see how the local party it up!! The fishing is always speculator. Big lings, rf, cabs, etc...I even score a legal cali-hali at just 22.5 inch lol This was on tourny day but after check in :( oh well.
It was great hanging out with everyone at camp and enjoying some fresh abalone, huge scallop courtesy of Noah (Antonio son), and many other dishes. Ariel with his mad skill on the pork belly...oh man it was bomb!!
Be careful of the resident skunk...it isn't afraid to come into camp and chill with you. Although it seems when they do come, everyone in camp seem to be anti-social lol Chad kept saying how CUTE it was lol It even pooped next to their tent lol
At any rate, I can't wait to get back to the Cove where "Life is good". Thanks again Eric for putting on a great tournament. Next year I'll focus on targeting the other species vs trying for that chrome lol
-
First off thanks Eric and Verna...
