I use the innertube of a racing bicycle that I insert my fingers in. 
Known in South Africa as a "finger lappie" or finger rag. you  only need one on each forefinger, and possibly on the pinkie. I grew up only handlining. The problem with it on a yak is you have to use heavy mono, so if you get hung up it could be very dangerous. You must us heavy mono because you don't have perfect drag like on a reel, and it takes a few milliseconds to adjust grip when the fish runs. There is a BUNCH of info on handlining on this South African fishing board....

Honestly Ive done both, and wouldnt handline unless I had to in most cases. There may be situations that it would be the way to go....like certain difficult mountaineering style launches, where you don't want any extra gear. There is a simplicity kick to it....

That's it for me...  May end up a novelty thing I try once and forget about, but I love that it takes no space, won't rust or corrode, or get jammed up by sand.
