Just saw that they got into trouble along Dillon beach. One of the kayakers fell out of his boat twice and didn't make it. They recovered his body. I believe he was a 50 year old male from sonoma co. The report said both kayakers were experienced. From the footage I saw it looked nasty out there. These may not be all the facts. They ran a quick story on the news. RIP.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (AP) — A kayaker died off the Northern California coast after twice falling into the water, first from his own boat and then from the boat of a friend who tried to save him.
Marin County sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman tells the Marin Independent Journal (http://bayareane.ws/18JPt4r) the victim is a 50-year-old man from Sonoma County. The man's name was not released pending notification of his family.
Pittman says the incident happened Wednesday after the two kayakers had paddled from the Nick's Cove area to Dillon Beach in Tomales Bay.
As they were heading back, one man fell from his boat in the rough conditions. His friend hoisted him into his own boat but the victim fell back in again.
Rescue crews found the man's body in the surf a short time later. The surviving kayaker paddled to shore.

Just remember... PFD and dress for immersion. ALWAYS!!!

This kind of thing doesn't have to happen.

His name was Nickolas Anast. He was a life sciences professor at Santa Rosa Jr. College.

Apparently he suffered some of distress then fell off the kayak. I'm thinking maybe he had a heart attack?

Supposedly he had a pfd on before he fell out. The news(ktvu) was saying it's not uncommon for a large or lose pfd to fall off in heavy surf?

you have to make sure that lowest strap on the pfd is tight and below your ribs to lock the pfd in place.

If he was having severe chest pain he might have taken the PFD off himself.

Oh man I can't read this. This was one of my favorite teachers while I was at Napa JC. I am hoping it is the wrong person but his name is not commen. May he rest in peace.
