It lasts up to 8 hours (if you are judicious with the throttle), and can be recharged while underway presumably via solar panel.

LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL.   Um, No.

Torqeedo does have a solar panel that is used to recharge but is just too large for a kayak use IMHO.  I've seen the panel.  It is the size of a small bimini top that is used for inflatable boats (which is where they started the marketing for).

price is going to be a consideration on the e-drive for anyone. but if you think of it 6 mph is gang buster compared to our usual 3.5 mph for the average paddler.  I have watched baitman with his torquedo run circles around me on his way in from Mooch's memorial a few years back.  He was not worn out when he hit the beach either.  I have a decent stroke, not great but better than a lot of people, and there was no way I could stay with him.

I know. I should have included an important modifier - trickle. No one with half a brain thinks you'll get much out of the tiny panels that fit on a kayak hull. I'll go fix it now.

Yes, want. Rotary bike style crank as opposed to the reciprocating Hobie setup.  I have both and the rotary is a lot more natural motion for my 60 yr old frame. Could be a very efficient pedaler with the right size prop. Looks wider than an AI. At maybe $2K for the motor/battery/controls I would guess close to $3500 retail? Great to see a  well engineered option. I volunteer for testing!

Maybe Jim SC Kayak can incorporate this torqeedo and pedal system in his bad ass tri hull form factor? Carbon fiber Batman Boat!

My only question is how the rudder will be controlled once the drives are install? Not much use for the foot pegs with the peddle drive.

I was kinda wondering the same thing.

Funny you should mention that !    Started that very project two months ago with a new model.  Just might have it completed by December if all goes as planned,  of course it rarely does.
