I was just considering selling all of my surf fishing gear today. But looking at stuff like this reignites my desire to throw on my waders, grab my 9' rod with 15 lb test and get out on the shore.
I might just do that once RF season ends.

This !!!!    When rock fishing closes, there isn't a whole hell of a lot to do here in Salinas.  :smt001 Most stocked trout lakes are at least an hour and a half away. I am only 15 minutes away from  perch fishing areas. The good thing is that perch really starts to pick up now. See ya on the beach . Hope to improve my striper fishing this year. I get bored with striper fishing especially when perch are more active. But the idea of having a 10 pound striper from the beach may be a little more tempting this year.

I hear you!

You know Alien, way before I got into kayak fishing I fished next to you at Sunset once. Funny how small or world is. Always remember us rockfishing when Pat kicked our buns at the Monterey Bay event. That was so fun and probably the most productive day I ever had rockfishing.

I miss perch fishing, but almost have the same fun with crappie down here in Texas. Scenery isn't doesn't compare like being on a beach, but it does fill a niche. Happy New Year.
Could never forget that day! Seals chassing the big mackerel on to the beach at dark thirty! SinCoast killing the the Derby with the two flattyies and the one that decided to jump on to my lap from Pats Yak! What a day!How could i forget! :smt003

16" Redtail on Christmas Day. The Barred's aren't quite up to par, so I threw one in from New Years 2017 haha!

Today-  Waves died down.  Sand dollar beach at 9am    nada    Main Beach Santa Cruz.....Nada.

Manresa proper had what looked like good structure when we checked on Wednesday, mid/low tide and visible rips stretching all the way out to 2d sandbar,  We need rain!!  And a few 10-12-foot swells.

BTW Sand Crab Classic will start taking entries within a couple weeks.  I will post here first.  So great to see more people get into perch fishing.  I try to perch every day I can.  Like my daily nap,

ps don't forget the Salinas and Pajaro Rivers are holding stripers near the lagoons right now.  Mostly 17-24 inches but I've heard of some 6-pound fish recently.   From the bank, or from the yak.
