Scott, did you mount the base (the plug in part) on your gunnel or on the amma arm? And did you use a recessed mount or an exterior?

Hmmm, just had another thought. Do you intend to have the boom facing forward so the handle doesn't interfere on the gunnel. With a right hand crank on the right side, facing back it will hit the gunnel won't it? Perhaps a left hand cranking reel might be a better choice? Thoughts?

Glynn

I mounted it on the aft aka bar using one of Pat R's mounts. I had to Marine Goop it to keep it from rotating.

For freshwater with a 2 rod stamp or tandems with 2 anglers, you can stack two lines on one downrigger but you have to twist on a small rubbercore sinker or other stopper device above the clip to keep it from sliding up. It's a little cumbersome but better than running 2 downriggers. If anyone knows of any easy to use stoppers, post it up.

Scott, have you tried a ShuttleHawk?

Yes I have tried the shuttle hawk and if I am paddling, I prefer the Davis fish seeker for freshwater over the shuttle hawk.

I've not tried either.

But it looks like you prefer even more to clip to the line.  Is that so?  Why?

I've never stacked on the kayak ...

Normal scotty stops don't work with braided line.  But the scotty braid specific ones should.

I've also never stacked on the kayak but I am planning to next time I go out - either that or just go dual downriggers.

Wow those beads are cool. Tx

I pull my lead ball every time I hook a fish for fear of the spectra cutting my fishing line so the shuttle hawk doesn't provide any advantage. In my eddyline with Molly in the tank well I use the fish seeker instead of a downrigger because it is easier to use. Sorry about the confused post.

I tried running 2 downriggers from a kayak and it was hard to keep the lines from tangling on the turns even with short set backs. I think stacking is the way to go for a kayak. I guess you could use shuttle hawks in a stacked scenario.

Well the stopper beads didn't work for me but the Scotty (1176) Stacker Downrigger Release worked great. Tested it on Lake Hennesey today on a family outing and it worked great! Even caught a little trout on the stacker. Life is good.

Scott, that makes more sense. Enough room to crank it up during the fight.

Scott, I just looked at your set up again. Specificly how you mounted your scotty plug in unit. If I put one on like that I couldn't put it up on the kayak racks on my vehicles. I'm assuming you are using the cradles so your boats are not upside down during transport? If you mounted them on the side, you would have the clearance for most racks. Just a thought. Obviously you have it worked out cause you already the the rig to Hennesy... :smt002 On my van I can't even clear the akas because of the lack of clearance from the bubbled shape of the van roof  even with out any mounts on it.

When I ramp launch, I store the plug in cart upside down behind the seat. PatR's Aka mounts can be mounted sideways if clearance is an issue when racking.
