luckily, my balls are still attached after all of that trauma.

   I've often considered the V8 to Good Mileage switch myself, and the balls factor is what stops me in my tracks every time!  I'm looking to mature enough to handle that blow at some point.     Welcome aboard.   

Welcome! This board is a great place with lots of people -- heed the advice, get PFD, the wetsuit, and radio for sure ...  I waited to drill holes in my yak for quite a while, and am still reluctant to do so (But did to install a FF.)   I've learned from so many here.  Hope to pay it forward in some way -- so -- WELCOME, from even a relative newbie
