So I was reading a forum topic conversation regarding the legality of using surf perch as bait. It was started on July 12, 2006. http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=4664.0  It however did not come to a definitive conclusion within the conversation stream. Has anyone found a definitive answer on this topic? Thanks.

Only shiner surfperch can be used for bait. Baited traps cannot be used south of Point Conceeption.

Huh?

There's no law against using surf perch for bait. As long as you count the fish you used for bait towards your limit and it's over 10.5" if it's a redtail, you're good to go. It's the same for rockfish.

Just restating what has been posted in the California Q&A a couple of times. If it has changed, by all means, give more details.

Clarification: the posts I referred to had to do what bait traps could be used for. Nothing to do with using surfperch as bait.

Does live cradads taken for ocean fishing as bait fit the the description here also? Or would it be cited for cruelty to crustaceans
