General Talk / Beef and Pork Fat for Crabing
« on: November 17, 2023, 09:57:20 AM »
Hi All,
Has anyone used beef or pork fat in bait jars for an added attractant? It seems like it would work but you more experienced folks would know. I figure you still need a good meat bait to keep the crabs on the conicals, but the fat could be a good scent stream. thoughts?

Fish Talk / Bodega Bay Experiment
« on: December 11, 2022, 02:20:12 PM »
Hi all,

Did a little experiment inside bodega bay, as the weather this Sunday was a bit much for the outer bay.

Dropped several crab rings in the far inside of the bodega bay channel in front of Lucas wharf and the Tides restaurant just to see I’d there were any Dungeness  crabs there since it seldom gets much pressure. Although I did not catch any keeper Dungeness , I caught hundreds of baby, and adolescent Dungies to 4”. I am so pleased that the Dungeness rookery on the Sonoma coast is doing well. I figured this would be good info for the kayaker group.

Tight Lines and full pots all,

Steve

For Sale / Hobie Mirage Drive V1 (?) For Sale
« on: October 18, 2022, 06:11:11 PM »
Hello all,
I acquired a version 1 (?) Hobie Mirage drive. It is missing the idler cable, but otherwise seems to function perfectly. The drive was part of an older inflatable Hobie. Hoping to convert this into some extra spending $$. From some fast research I did, looks like a going price for this is around $300, or best offer.
Thanks, and Tight lines :-)

Fishing Pics / Marconi Cove - Marshall Halibut
« on: September 24, 2022, 09:11:16 AM »
Caught a keeper yesterday. Have been consistently catching tons of shakers (still way fun 😎) but the keepers have been fewer. This 27” is a welcomed change. The water there is warm, which has brought in the jellyfish swarm. They are so thick that you can’t troll. The only alternative is to drift. There is also many patches of floating eel grass that complicates the fishing. All fish were caught on frozen anchovies and herring, about a 50% split.
Tight lines!!!

Hi all,
Thatnks for the good wishes. Caught my first limit from my kayak. Even had the privilege to cull 4 legal Dungeness to catch next time. In addition, I caught many rock crab, and kept 4 Very large ones. Feel very privileged to be able to do this great sport.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Bodega Bay, Crabbing
« on: January 04, 2022, 03:20:47 PM »
Hi All,
Thinking of heading out for a mid-week crabbing adventure outside Bodega Bay. Arrival ~7:00 and will launch from the beach ~100 yards from the Jetty at ~7:30. Wind is projected to be very light, with medium swell and 14 second cycle. Should be comfortable.

General Talk / Lake Sonoma visit
« on: December 27, 2021, 04:08:00 PM »
Just did a drive-by of Lake Sonoma. Level is ~56% and color is a fishable green near the dam. Last year at this time I caught a 24” Steelhead on a silver needle fish trolling about 10-15 ft down underneath the bridge to the dam face. Have not been out yet this year. Good luck and let us know how you do.
