Thinking to give Pac butt a try in the near future. I know a few folks here have caught them on kayak, but it does sound like a pretty difficult task, so I thought maybe hopping on a charter boat will increase my odds? I am seeking opinion and recommendation around Eureka. Is there any boat out there scores them consistently? If not Eureka, anywhere else in CA? Or I should just make a trip to AK instead? I did a quick google search and there are few names out there, Coastline, Full Throttle, Reel Steel. What is your thoughts? Other boats?

There's a few other options a little further north too.

They have been pushing halibut charters on their facebook page for the last couple weeks.  Brookings only lands about 3-4k lbs of halibut a year, it's an underutilized fishery.

Just realize they are in Oregon. Trying to stay in CA as much as possible if there is no difference in odds of catching.

I agree with the above!!!  I have fished with Full Throttle several times and have never had a bad experience or not catch fish.

Thanks a lot! How were your pac butt experience with them? I just saw Reel Steel post on Coastside stating pac butt were biting pretty well last week.

I've been seeing a lot of big halibut pics in the last couple days including a 108 lbs monster barn door out of Crescent City.

Catching one is good enough for now :smt005. But triple digits would be nicer.  :smt003

Another recommendation for Reel Steel, great guy and top notch operation.  From the good ol' days of 2012, limits of kings, lings and the bonus Pac Hali.

Right on. After looking at the Facebook pics for Full Throttle I'm ready to go right now! Weekdays are fine, too.
