I'm like a crow when it comes to shiny things.  I'm highly impressionable.

So I'm checking with you guys before I buy.

Has anyone ever used (with any success) a Shimano Lucanus jig?

The Del Mar Fred Hall Show is coming up and I was thinking of getting one (or so).

SSHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
Secret Lure for many fish.
Just make sure you work it slow and don't set the hook, just keep reeling until the fish is on.
Oh Yeah best color is Orange.

A bit pricey, but they do work well. Just don't get too close to the bottom to get it hung up.

I haven't yet but they look pretty hot. I watched the Shimano video on the website and it looks cool underwater. Yes I wouldn't want to lose it at the price. It seems I read somewhere that the skirts get torn up pretty easy and that you will go through them fast when on to some big agressive ling cod. If you buy one I sure would be interested in knowing your experience. Craig

I have not used them but I have found a cheaper alternative that has worked very well on both Vermillion and Cabs. No lings for me yet. Both the midnight and the dorado colors have been the best producers for me.

I've been thinking about these for a while, but at the price that is as far as I have made it. Check out basspro.com/saltwater for their version called the Braid Sea Fox and Thumper Squid. A third of the cost at 4.99-8.99 and look just as effective, I'm going to pick a couple of them up soon and will report back

What size/weight are you guys using?  Alot of the Japanese lures are really unique, and supposed to be very effective.

Even the knockoffs are WAY too expensive to be using for rockfish, imo....  they aren't that picky.

I am too cheap to use these, but I have to admit that once in a group of 4 yaks, fishing was slow for all but one.  He was using the Lucanus lure.  Outfished us say 4-1 with nicer fish.

then again the next trip one of us was using these really stupid looking fake squid...and he kicked our butts.

I have my first batch of homemade lures entering their final stages, I followed your fantastic instructional a few months ago using the butter knives and am pleased with the results. It has been a learning experience and I enjoy the hands on work. I'm sure the fish appreciate them too and will not care how much they cost. I will post pictures soon Eric, thanks again.  Mike
