Just bought a rod and reel there a couple of weeks ago. They have a great selection for a small shop. OP gets enough business...

I use 4 pounds in each square Danielson. I tried 8 for a while until I had to leave the traps out for 5 days because of a huge swell. When I pulled the traps the ones with 4 pounds came up easy and didn't move much. The one with 8 pounds dug into the sand and it took a while to pop it loose from the sand.

I also cut the bottoms of the doors with bolt cutters so they don't get stuck in the sand yet still hit the bottom piece of metal at the base of the door.

I have seen people using them on the river up there, they are great. We might move that way if my wife is comfortable with the style. I have always thought an Eddyline might be the kayak for me when I get too old to pull the Outback around.

Thanks!

General Talk / River Kayak Advice

Happy new year!

I am going to sell my wife's OK T13 and buy a couple of kayaks for the river. We usually go to Little River, Big River or wherever. We want sit on top paddle kayaks possibly with chairs and something in the 10' range. They will be easier to transport but not as fast as the good old T13.

I was just wondering if anyone had some advice on a good fit for what we are looking for. I saw some interesting models on the Headwaters site...

Thanks!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Landing net advice
« on: October 30, 2020, 10:45:59 AM »
I have one of these and like it. I bought the medium thinking that would be big enough for anything I would catch. I had a lingcod over 30" long in it a couple of weeks ago and thought I need a larger net. I lost a big ling about a month ago that flipped out of the net so I make a mental note to flip the net sideways and "roll it" into the kayak as soon as the fish is in the net.

A friend I go fishing with does not use a net and has a lip gripper...but if you have a rider??

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Crab Trap Rack for an Outback

Fantastic! Those are very creative designs...the gears are turning. Thanks for the ideas. I usually like to take out two traps and had it down on the OK 13 but this is a new rig and I have to figure out how to get comfortable with all the crab luggage. Thanks again!

Hobie Kayaks / Crab Trap Rack for an Outback
« on: October 29, 2020, 08:51:09 PM »
I am trying to setup my new Outback for crabbing. I was going to make an "H" bar out of PVC and stick it in the scupper holes however there are only two scupper holes in the rear. Is that what you guys do to stack your traps? I'm looking for ideas. Pictures help...thanks!

It looks like the opener is going to be blown out!?

Got it...thanks. This is for storage in the garage so I don't think it matters but gray is a little easier on the eyes anyway. I'll check cost when I pick it up.

Thanks!

Schedule 40 I assume... I'm spanning 8 feet with the pipe.

Hobie Kayaks / Darkness Approaches PVC for Hobie Rack

I took a test ride this week at CCK and put an order in for a new Outback. I'm going to the dark side.

One question I had is what size PVC do you use for storage on a mobile wood rack. I have seen 2", 3", PVC, and ABS. Most people seem to use PVC.

Any idea of what diameter is best?

Thanks!

I'm not sure but it has happened for months. I can see other people commenting on videos that I can not view. Maybe it is my old PC but I have not had this problem anywhere else. I'll do some googling and see what I come up with.

Does anyone know why I can not see videos on the forum? I can see pics. This has been going on for a while. For instance...I was looking at the GWS thread and can not see anything in Fishing Addicts post, just a blank page.

Thanks!
