I am looking for a wet suit. I don't want to spend a ton of money. Does anyone have suggestions of where to purchase a used suit?  What kind would you suggest?

I've not found craigslist to have cheaper wetsuits.  Call diver dan's in sunnyvale and ask them if/when they're selling used rental gear.  Can get a farmer john from them for ~$50 and not feel bad if you get it bloody and torn on the rocks, ect.  Have to catch them when they're upgrading their rental stock though.

I would suggest getting an NRS suit. They are super comfy and great for paddling. I have a .5mil and a 3mil farmer john from them and they are great.

Link to the 3mil suit I have:

When I looked into the used suits at Diver Dan's 1.5 yrs ago, I passed.  These suits were really beat up.  Lots of tears and broken zippers.

I have a Warmers Farmer John from REI.  2mil.  Warm enough for paddling but if you fall and completely lose your kayak you will be cold.

By the way, REI exchanged my suit no questions asked after using it for 1 yr when it split at the seams.  Pretty good store/customer service.

I know not everyone lives in Santa Cruz (poor devils) but around here you can easily find used wetsuits.  There are several places down by the surfshops on 41st avenue that sell used surf suits and accessories.  For those of you who want farmer johns...   used wetsuit + knife = solution.

I have the .5 mil NRS farmer john also.  I think it was like $75 at Outback Adventure.  I'd have to agree that its pretty comfortable to paddle in and the front side zipper is golden if you "gotta go".  I wouldn't count on it as a survival suit though.

If you plan to do any long duration kayaking, a zipper in the front is a must!
