-
Man George!!! Bday party at the cove? Ima see if i can make it this year.
-
Man Kevin.. if you go I might have to hitch a ride with you!

Because of my involvement with Shelter Cove Preservation Inc.( http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=86546.0 ) I have been thinking of changing the registration requrements for this event ( Please see poll at top ). Please vote for your prefered option above and voice your opinion here.
Thank you for your time,
Eric

Great move to scope the community about this, Eric. I support your efforts to raise funds for SCFPI and will be making an announcement soon regarding GS13's efforts in that regard.
-
Voted and I will be there.
-
GS and open shelter are both in a great position to support the newly formed preservation group and build on the goodwill between the kayak fishing community and other users of the cove facilities.
Good ideas and good work Eric & Eric.
-
If I'm driving 5+ hours and calculating gas + lodging + a couple overpriced bait trays + a couple meals out and of course for an event like this I have to being sure I'm stocked up on swimbaits, jig heads, salmon flashers etc (even though I already know I have more than I need) am I going to noticed that I gave $25 or ? to a good cause ?
Nope, NO !
-
There!
-
Will be there to support whatever decision is made.
-
Love the low key nature of this event. Do whatever you have to do to maintain the nature of what you started.
-
From a branding perspective i really like ur tagline "Where Life Is Good." Solid thinking E
-
Not sure if I can make it but raising funds for the Cove seems like the RIGHT thing to do.
-
I love and support my Paradise :smt001
-
VOTED and looking forward to meeting everyone up there. I'll have my new Outback in about 4 weeks. I don't have many free weekends as I'm scheduled to umpire 31 weekends this year, but this one is now blocked off for fishing.
-
Count me in for the cause wether i make it or not !
Such a small commitment for such a great place. Be great for all to donate now if you can because eventually you will get to enjoy shelter cove and be able to say you helped in preserving it.
Off my soap box.
Alex
-
Definitely In!
-
Just a heads up,
This year another event has been scheduled on the same date :'0(
Unfortunately,
This will mean that you will have to make a decision between the two (NOT good for either event).
I will not try to compete with this event, but will just offer this
This years event will benefit the Shelter Cove Fishing Preservation Inc. There will be a $25 entry and event shirts will be available for an additional fee. All proceeds will be donated to S.C.F.P. Inc.
If you enjoy fishing out of Shelter Cove, this is a great way to support a great nonprofit organization for the betterment of all.
I am working on prizes and will post more on that later. As in years past, this will be a great family fun event that you won't regret being a part of.
I will be posting more details, and begin registration in early June so as NOT to interfere with the G.S. event.
Hope to see you in September
Where Life is Good
;0)
-
Will do my best to be there - to fish that great resource and support the Shelter Cove Preservation group.
-
I will try to make this not sure why the other tourney had to schedue on the same day but maybe they can switch.
-
Registration is now open
Info on first post of this thread
Be sure to postmark registration by August 17

Definitely going...I missed GS this year for my Granddaughter's Celebration.
-
I hope to be back in the saddle and able to attend.
-
Like the shirt, good cause.
-
Shifra and I will see you all there. Love the cove , so hard to leave but glad we are coming back soon.
-
Just an update ...
Rules, Waiver and Entry forms have been added to bottom of first post.
This should make it easier for those like me that are "Technology Challenged"
See Ya There
;0)
Oh Yah,
Almost forgot ...
Salmon have been starting to bite again. Also, the California Halibut and Thresher's have been increasing in numbers daily.
September is shaping up to be a spectacular time to fish the Cove, so don't miss out!
-
That shirt is wicked awesome... :smt003
-
One month left to sign up (and order shirt)!
The cove is shaping up nicely and looks to be another awsome time to fish the Cove.
A quick Cove report;
Wednesday morning, hit the water with Terry Saufferer (of the Bald Eagles fame) and had a great time. First thing Terry hooks into a massive Soup Fin which keeps him busy for the next hour and forty five minutes. As his epic battle continues I concentrate on the Cali-Hali grounds. After a few shakers, I land a nice 26 inch keeper. Terry finally releases his long time companion and joins me. We hook and release a few more 20-23 inchers and the bite dies. After about an hour with little to no luck, I fouled my rig and rather than retying, decide to drop down a swim bait. Within minutes, I'm hooked into a nice 30 inch spastic Cali ..... Two on the hook. I see a pelican and several other birds that I noticed have not moved in over an hour while all the other birds have been flying all over. I head over quietly, drop my plastic offering and immediately feel a heavy snap and again I'm into a battle. Several minutes later (and many missed netting opportunities) I finally have my final hali (34 inches) on the hook.
Great day fishing with one of the greatest fishermen I know.
Thanks for sharing this adventure with me Terry, look forward to fishing with you again.
See you all in September

Come on, folks - send them in! This event is a great time, and the big fish potential at the Cove right now is insane!
Burgie, a local salmon troller, was mooching right off the lighthouse in 45' the other day and bent his gaff on a 100 pound Pacific.
I had something on that was starting to spool me, and then it sat there before spitting my hooks.
I had a guest hook a screamer that almost spooled him, and then he pulled it almost all the way back in - no head shakes. Finally it turned and took the hooks.
I know someone who lost a massive salmon the other day, and one of the ones my guest broke off was a hog of over 20 pounds - maybe 25 to 30. I broke off a big salmon myself a couple weeks back.
Quite a few calibuts over 30" being caught out front, and I got a 20" Petrale among a pile of 'em.
Go Cove. Go Cove. Go Cove. Don't end your summer without it!
Here are past Open Shelter pics:

I need my therapy.

We're gonna kill it. Eric's right - get up here, and let's light it up. Everything is in play right now, and even if the water isn't just right, we'll have plenty of fishing opportunity.
I predict:
- multiple salmon caught by our group;
- dozens if not scores of halibut caught by our group;
- plenty of quality lingcod and rockfish caught by our group;
- thresher sharks hooked and possibly landed by our group;
- great times had by our group.
Bring your A-Game, and let's see what we can do. This weekend represents an assemblage of highly skilled anglers who are also mostly all friends. Personally, I'm looking so forward to hanging with my badass brothers and seeing who catches the special fish. We're on this, and it's up to us to make it happen. Can't wait. :smt001
-
Cheers Eric!(s)
Can't wait to see some new and old faces.

I’d love to but I’m already working next weekend. I’d put in for this weekend off to go fishing but I have a funeral to attend, my buddy’s son was killed in a car accident last weekend.
Everyone please drive safely, and don’t drink and drive.

Unfortunately I can't make it. Totally bummed. My foot is taking its sweet time healing. No Kayak fishing for me for at least 2-3 more weeks.
Good luck everyone

Awesome weather, people and fishing. Thanks Innkeeper for putting this together again! Thanks RMI for the support too! Looking forward to the next one! 7 species on tournament day to win. Can’t wait to get back to the cove for some more Hali action before they move off to deeper water!
-
It was awesome event. Congratulations to Eric kaai for putting on it a well organized tournament. Tournament day was a little rough but Sunday laid out beautifully, and showed the beauty of this place.
The fish were somewhat biting but the company made the trip up worth it. Darius even stayed out super long on Sunday!!!
Great event hands down.
-
Great weekend! SCFP and volunteers really doing a great job. Grats to the top finishers. INN KEEPER thank you for the hospitality!
Shout out to Twoody for letting me post the pic of the Hali meet and greet OTW and to solsurfer for the gaff assist.

Best bite. And other random pics.
Thank you to Eric Stockwell for teaching me how to fish with bait, and Eric and Verna for being the best hosts a guy could ask
For. I enjoyed every second.

Big thanks to Eric (and Verna!) for putting on a great tournament. This has quickly become one of my favorite events of the year. Already looking forward to the next one!
-
Me and the fam had a great time. Finally got Derik out fishing for the first time. We hit the surf Sunday morning. We didn't catch anything, but after getting the hang of it Derik can cast a little spinner damn near as far as I can. He was also super stoked to win a pair of folding chairs in the raffle! :smt001
See you guys next year.

Who made the ceviche? Bomb! I somehow ended up with the leftovers, (I was drinking and my memory is hazy, hopefully I didn’t just grab it and run to my room!)
Anyway, I’m still eating it, thanks.

My wifey made it from the yellowtail I caught in July. She thought it came out too bitter, but I thought it was pretty good. I'll let her know it was enjoyed!

That ceviche was GOOD!! Good seeing everyone! Lots of familiar faces that I haven't seen in long time including Eric B. The OG's are in full force too. Saw all my heroes there. Thanks Eric/Verna (the InnKeeper) for putting up such a great event awesome hosts. Eric (Loleta guy) For letting me bunk on the evening we arrived. I did not let TLA took advantage of me :smt044 Tehpenguins for sharing his site. TLA for being an amazing co-pilot and he told me that he will load me fish. He came through! The first time I went to Shelter not really tried for rockfish. Awesome weekend!

I’m eating it as I type this. I’m like Homer Simpson with the sub sandwich... pray for me.

We really enjoyed our first 'Open Shelter' event, already looking forward to next years. Pam and I loved staying at the Tides. Also the road there wasn't an issue, unlike when driving the Aero Cruiser. Sure do admire the prize winning fishermen's skill, for me it was a tough bite. I'll be trying harder next year...
