Title: Blown Away at Lake Sonoma
Post by: mickfish on April 12, 2009, 03:19:57 PM
Had a great time at the Lake with Chad,Joel,Ben and John lots of laughs and lots of wind beautiful wild life and scenery and warm campfires. Before we settled down for the night Chad and Joel talked strategy and then Mooch secured the Campsite, I'm sure you be hearing a lot about the first photo.

The wind blew the whole time we were there so it sorta put a damper on the fishing the fishing was good just tough because of the wind. We all caught a few and Ben got a lotta Pussy

Mike, I feel you with regards to the wind! I was at Liberty Glen and it hardley ever quit there too.
I saw your rigs at the ramp friday and today, too late and too early.
Why don't you guys camp at the other arm, somewhere below Bummer Peak? That place is sheltered well.

Good times!  Thanks Mike for setting this up - always enjoy hanging and fishing with you.

Joel, Ben, Chad - good hanging and fishing with you guys!

I arrived Saturday afternoon, wind howling straight down the lake from the west.  Waited till about 5:30-6:00 and paddled into the wind to camp - nice workout.

Caught a few smallies.  Beautiful lake, hills are nice and green this time of year.  Great camping spot, first time fishing this lake, will be back.

Reads and looks like a regular paddle-in camp-out trip to me.......lots of laughs, fun, fish & GOOD TIMES abroad!
Chad calls me thurs nite for directions, he assumed it was drive in camping. Good to see the boy is turning into a man(maybe?)....did he brush his teeth? :smt003

did any "pinkos" end up breaking the line? :smt004  those paintballs leave marks.

I had grown-up stuff to do, or I would LOVED to be there there with my Real_Family :smt010

Lots of fun and wind. All my big fish were on land, including a 21"lmb, and a 31"cat, both released. I did keep a smaller bass and bullhead cat for camp-grub. No smallies for me, Mike caught 10.
Joel found a new love, a fully auto soft air gun. We had war games in the woods, Joel with his machine gun and me with my crossman 760@ 2 or 3 pumps. He shot me a thousand times, I felt like the terminator. He spent most of the time hiding behind trees waiting for me to fire my ONE bb, then he would jump out and spray me with a hundred. I finally pinged him in the arm. Chad has the aim, when Joel was a bit away from the camp, he took aim and said, Left cheek, and nailed him right in the ass, the highlight of the trip.

"OW You Shot Me"

"Above Surface Lures"

Glad you guys had a great time.  I knew it was going to be a fun belly-bustin' trip, but I just couldn't escape for the weekend this time.  Next time!

Thanks to Mike for making the Lake Sonoma Fish n' chill a yearly event and as always, I had a GREAT time with the crew.

Thanks to Chad for introducing me to the new sport of killing...without actually "killing" :smt068 I must say that the air soft guns look, sound and feel almost like the real thing :smt007 I WANT ONE :smt007

Thanks to Ben for letting me shoot him a hundred times during our "war games"....I truly enjoyed sneaking around the wooded area and taking shots at him as he was giving up his position when he was pumping his weapon after every shot he made  :smt011  It was all fun and games until he shot me in the arm with a round brass bullet :smt013 I felt the "pain" and went "rambo" on him  :smt067 But despite being a casualty of "da war in Sonoma", I had lot's of fun pulling the trigger (I grew up around guns and always wanted to be a member of the elite special forces...but doing a lot of sit-ups,push ups, running and taking BS from a drill sargeant REPEATEDLY wasn't too appealing to me :smt002)

One thing I've learned this weekend is that it's really nice to have a backup plan when the wind is blowing too hard to fish :smt002 You can simply count on the fully automatic airsoft MP-5 and go rambo on your friends :smt003 (by the way, the bullets we were using were biodegradable)

John, thanks for sharing your sausage.....I mean, "hot-links" :smt002 And also being a sport...regarding the apron thing  :smt003 It was nice meeting another NCKA'er  :smt006

As far as fishing, I scored one LMB and half a dozen SMB using a variety of lures (I snagged and lost MANY lures  :smt011). The LMB was caught on a plastic crawdad and the SMB were on the plastic june bug, small rattle trap and a wild eye swim bait (shad). All fish were released.

Pics to follow...

Looks like a good time, even with the mighty wind blowin' around camp!
Wish I could've made it - was practically on my way but had to call it off after too many delays.

Looks like you guys had a great time. Nice.

Joel, you should get a paintball gun, they don't sting as much because the balls are softer and explode.  I'll bring mine next time I'm gonna see you for a demonstration. :smt003

Airsoft war next Fish, Camp, & Chill. Everyone bring an airsoft gun/rifle & facemask, camo clothing, split into teams and have an all out war in the woods.

Sorry for the late pics, very busy week... my only aoty points of the trip, a 14 1/2 incher that put me back in the top 10, the ones from shore were 18" and 21", DOH!
One of Joels smallies, the waterfall cove, the little rat I be-friended, Osprey and his pad, my big kitty, he was let go in 150 feet of water after I used him all day long as a rudder, worked amazingly well.
I still have a video of Joel and his toy I need to post on utube, I just dont know how yet. And a big thanks to Mike for setting it up and bringing some killer meat once again, even with the wind it was a gas!

I think some kind of mouse too, I just prefer Joels reaction when I call him a rat. :smt005
I tossed a piece of bark in his lap later that night, he jumped like a startled cat.
