IMO: uni to uni knot  :smt002

Uni-Uni Knot - for joining line to leader
Overlap the two lines for about six inches.
Using one end, form a circle that overlies both lines.
Pass the end six to eight times around the two lines.
Pull the tag end tight to form the first knot.
Repeat the process using the end of the other line.
Pull both lines to slide the two knots together. (make sure you wet the line before pulling)

you might double the 20lb spectra first.  then go uni to uni.

an alternative is albright special.

see the power pro website.

Dang, thats one strong knot! Almost cut me bloody finger off. So I didnt try the doulbe type knot, but thats what I was wondering about, the teflon slikness to the spectra. But with the drag set right, this will land a fattie. Ill try the double.

The uni to uni knot is great for tying together two strands of the same diameter, where as the albright is better for tying two strands of different diameters.   In the case of tying superbraid to mono, I doubt you'd tie two strands of the same diamter together... i.e.  20 lb spectra to 6 lb mono.  More likely you'd want to tie 20 lb spectra to 20 lb mono for which there is a substantail difference in diameter and thus the albright is probably a better knot.  I'm not sure how the doubling up of the spectra works on the uni to uni, but I'm guessing it acts to even out the working diameter of the strands being tied.

Uni knot?,
I was wondering what a uni was.
That's the same thing I have tied all my life and called it a blood knot.
Thanks for the info!
By the way mooch will you be conducting a class on knot tying?
Your directions and illustrations look very professional to me and I could use some help with my knots as I use all of maybe 3.

I had some early problems with tying the uni-to-uni.  It seemed to me like the thin PP was cutting into the knot.  Once I started doubling the PP, I have had no problems.

Even the directions for the Albright at the PowerPro site say to double the Albright.

I've said this before, but it's worth repeating.  I read an article that tested double lines when tying regular knots in mono.  It most (all?) cases for 30# line amd below, doubling the line resulted in a stronger knot.  I tend to double my lines now when tuna fishing.

Instead of just doubling the powerpro, do a bimini twist.
After the Albright,  do an 8-turn lock.

I put the uni to uni knot to the test when I got a sturgeon to bite earlier in the year. I had 20 # power pro braided line and had 5 ft. of 20# mono attached to it (uni to uni). The Sturgeon did a run and the uni knot held on.....but the 20# mono later broke off - just a foot off where the hook was tied.

Boxofrain - Get this book on knot tying by Bob McNally = GOOD STUFF! (Cabelas sells it)

this book is a good all-rounder....

dunaway is the accepted 'inventor' of the uni-knot system.

chapter on knots,  good sections on rigging bait. not quite as good for the
west coaster as this guy is more florida centric, but excelllent all around.

http://www.fishermansoutfitter.com/pc-77-22-Bait-Rigs-and-Tackle.aspx?affiliateID=10050

type 'dunaway bait rigs and tackle' into google search.

cheaper @ amazon, search for it there...

I have found this helpfull. You will notice they also call it a blood knot, which is how I learned it.

The blood knot is different than the Uni knot.  I used to use that knot before I started using the Uni knot.  I find the Uni knot to be much more reliable.
