Does anyone have any idea of why? Too much pressure close to shore?

2
So if I'm reading the regulations right, we can't fish between that line and the shore for rockfish?

3
I totally agree, just being out there in a pb and making such easy work makes me think about being out there on a yak, especially for the bigger fish.

4
Good to know the s swell issue... I've honestly  ever looked out there for launch spots... its a rare event that I get a chance to fish now days, even more rare that it's a fishable day (high winds or shitty tides.)

5
Talked to a commercial guy and he said he caught 500lbs on Thursday. Everyone was hooking up about every 15 minutes. It's was really good fishing... now I just got to get out on my yak.

General Fishing Tips / Fish mat/ cutting board
« on: June 25, 2022, 03:22:40 PM »
Ok, so I spent the morning cleaning halibut today and a few were too big for my cutting board, also had an issue with the fish sliding around on the board. What are you guys doing
 For breaking down bigger halibut.

Well o got the chance to go out and a friend's pb and we slayed them. Went out to the north bar and trolled hoochies for a couple hours caught 8, 1 was questionable so it went back to grow bigger... overall a great day on the water, it was pretty calm but I'm not sure I'd want to be out there on a kayak... it would be a rough going.

I'm looking to chase some halibut this Saturday. Thinking berkeley or ARW... Anyone headed somewhere where I can join in?

9
Hit the end of the old ruins in 12-15' of water, trolling live smelt around. Nice fleet in the area with bite coming near the bottom of the tide at 9:30 am. Video attached enjoy!

hi papio
i found this posting searching for threads about fishing in berkeley.  im in berkeley mostly and wanted to know more about how/when/where people go out.  do you ever go out relatively earlier in the year like april/may in this area, or only in july like twhen you posted this fun video?

thanks!

The halibut are working their way into the north bay right now. South Bay warms up first.

I totally get it, it's going to blow in the afternoon.

11
I was referring to wantingbto fish the incoming tide vs outgoing, the wind is going to kick up in the afternoon so I will just have to get up early and fish early as possible.

12
I'm open to launching elsewhere, the tides are opposite of what I typically want to fish but it's the only chance I have for a few weeks. Hoping to have someone join in. Let me know.

I'll add most of the action was centered around the cans but I did see one guy on a hobie with outriggers and a trolling motor that came in with 3 keepers and I didn't seem him among the crowd at the cans.

Well I finally made the trip but it was off to a rough start. My trolling motor wouldn't turn on and the bait shop only had bagged anchovies which were very small. Made the best of it and headed west to the sailboat then north to the cans. Had one quick bite that stripped the bait but left the hook. Saw several boats hooking up once the tide started to come in (most boats had live bait). Headed in around 4 o'clock to have a beer at almanac before braving the traffic on the way home. Least learned, buy bait before hand and have rigs with smaller hooks incase I get stuck with small baits, also don't leave home without my sabiki rod and livewell.

Hahaha, yes
