Hobie Kayaks / Fish finder cord routing on 2011 hobie revolution 13
« on: July 03, 2020, 10:39:52 PM »
Hey all,

Just picked up my first 2011 hobie revolution 13.

How is everyone routing the cables for their fish finders?

Being my first hobie, I haven’t started drilling holes just yet.

Haven’t gotten a fish finder or battery set up yet, but looking to plan it out.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Thoughts on first fish finder?
« on: May 11, 2020, 08:56:01 AM »
I have yet to pick up and hardwire a high end fish finder (althought I am pretty much waiting for a new kayak to put all that on).

For me the navionics app is the most useful for depth, contour, tracking distance, saving a location every time I take a photo of a fish etc. It does not have the function if the area is fishy or not, but that is easy when going for rockfish/ling cod. Love this app

I also have a little $40.00 AAA powered lucky fish finder.
It does a decent job telling structure, depth of fish, and if there are fish or not (little fish icon appear).
What it does not do is show large marks vs small but seems to work fine.
Having both seems to have been working so far for those species.
To top that, its not 100% waterproof, so i dont expect it to last me more than 15 more trips. (water seems to get into the screen area, but I let it dry out and rinse it after every trip and its been working just fine). Does a good job reading depth.

so it works, not fantastic, but better than nothing.

Kayaks / Re: First Kayak; Thoughts, Suggestioms, Recommendations
« on: April 29, 2020, 11:40:39 AM »
You can find deals on used Hobies on craigslist & the classified section here. They upgraded the seats in 2015. Those are generally more expensive, but there’s nothing wrong with the oldschool seat for the Revo in my opinion (not as comfortable but maybe better performance due to the lower COG and direct contact with the yak hull).

It’s interesting to see manufacturers develop their own pedal drives. And I’ve noticed some look exactly like the mirage drive. I’m definitely vibing on the new Vibe pedal drive kayaks because they seem like solid seaworthy kayak with super-comfy seats that cost less AND they work with the Hobie mirage drive. They use a knockoff-style mirage drive. As a current Hobie owner, it would be cool to buy a new yak that paddles really well and accepts my mirage drive. The new Sheerwater looks like a winner.

Hey Sin!

Where did you see that that would accept a Mirage Drive?

Thanks,
MT

Decided to wait it out and keep an eye out for the revo 13 or outback. There is a very clean revo 11 on CL posted yesterday.
