Anyone ever try fishing off the rocks in Muir beach.  The ones with all the mussels on it.

Hey Clarrus. I used to spend a lot of time at Muir, due to living close by. Muir Beach has a very sandy bottom for the most part. Surf perch along the shore, occasional striper in the same zone and yes, some RCG species at the far north end out around the point by the wash rock. If you are talking about the monolith looking rock at the mouth of Redwood creek, that's all sandy bottom. If you are talking about the wash rock out at the point, that has a bit of structure around it and running back towards the shore. Never fished the south end, but I've seen people fishing from shore south of the beach, off the rocks. If you are gonna be fishing in your kayak, bring your beach wheels. It's a bit of a hike. Also a surf launch, but the north end can be more protected from the west and north swells. South swell? Forget it.

There a couple of decent places to rock hop out on the north side. I've caught a couple of halibut from shore from there over the years... slow bouncing swim baits in rainbow trout color.

Of course watch yourself, rocks are slippery, there's waves, and tigers

No, tigers are protected in Marin.

Climbing on the rocks to the South is where I leaned to shore fish, if you go at low tide you can get pretty far before it closes out. Used to catch   perch and greenling using squid but many use peeled shrimp, heavily fished area so skunk is likely.

Good luck and post a report when you go.
