Just wanted to thank Andy, Al, Sara, Jim (I snuck a dead speared perch in your cooler dude, hope you took it out! Thats for crushing my hand) Pat, Daniel for making a once little idea into a big event. Thank you!
Also, I'd olike to thank Joel for the cool airplant you made for my wife and I, and even bigger thanks for taking time out to make a special one for my daughter, she was very shy, but she LOVES IT, she played with it all night, Thank you, your a great dude!
So, who took home that pretty kayak?
-
Haha you're lucky Mooch isn't online or he'd move this post to the appropriate board (-: Just messing with ya Brent. Scott won the Raptor after building a ton of karma by putting everyone on salmon!

Bayside report from PIF day..
July 21
There were a few Salmon caught today near the Soquel Hole at 36'50/121'56. The anglers did best early in the morning trolling 50-100 feet down. The best bite was near the Point of Monterey on the bottom in 240-260 feet of water. The wind was down and anglers ran across the bay and had limits by 10:00. The best bet was to troll the bottom or mooch near the bottom. The inshore fishing is good hear in Santa Cruz and Capitola. There is a mix bag of Halibut, Rock fish, Lingcod, Sea Bass, and Thresher Sharks being caught with Squid in 40-70 feet of water. The winds are expected to come down and anglers are planning on looking for Albacore on Tuesday or Wednesday!
Congrats guys his unusual lack of detail and the 1 photo with 1 salmon on his page tells me that lots of PBs went back to Santa Cruz harbor with nothing but empty beer cans , lots of clean ice and front row elevated expensive seats for the viewing of a fleet of Kayaks gathering up Salmon .... Lots of paid fishing captains didn't look so good yesterday in front of the customers AND ITS ALL OUR FAULT.. CONGRATULATIONS..lots of trophy fish caught ..
I had a great time my first NCKA events was fun and DELICIOUS..
-
If anyone has a photo of my 2 fish from yesterday please send me a copy ..the girl I had take my photo on beach was not so good with my camera ..
Thank you in advance ..

A BIG THANKS to everyone who helped contribute to this event. Even all those little things ( Plates, utensils, tables, even trash cans ) added up to making it a huge success.
I finally talked my wife into coming along. The good part was she had a terrific time ( +++ WAF points ). The bad part, she thinks 6am is " early". :smt005 Even though I had a really late start yesterday, still got that adrenaline rush with a hook-up,,, before losing it.
Sara , you are an angel ! :smt001
Cheers !
-
I had a blast!!
Diving with Omer and Nathan and Brent in the AM, no luck finding halibut but Nathan shot a beautiful Calico Bass!! :smt007 :smt007
Out by the red can, saw Team Danglin land a beautiful salmon before the party got started.
Great time hanging and chilling with old and new friends!!
:smt003 :smt004 :smt003
Back on the beach, the potluck was off the hook as usual, and the raffle went pretty smoothly!
Congrats to all those who won some of the AWESOME prize!!
GreatBass2 took home the SWEET new SOT Raptor...great prize for a great guy!!
Huge THANK YOU to all who helped make this happen...everybody who organized/donated prizes/bought tickets/showed up/cooked/drank/laughed/smiled/hugged.
:smt008
Really is special to see so many people come together to celebrate life and help out one of our own.

Special thanks to Sara for letting me borrow her Revo. Thanks to Al as well for hauling it down. I can now see the appeal of the dark side. Morgan.AI????? Maybe by Albion.
I hope we were able to raise enough money to help out our brother. I had to take off early to handle things at home. It was great meeting new people and I can't wait to actually be able to meet more.
Thanks to those A-Hull organizers that made this thing happen.
Fishing report: after not really knowing where I was going (fog) I arrived at the red can about 8. Single hook through the bottom lip I guess and out his poor little anchovy head. Seated the hook back in his noggin and exposed the entire hook along his back with the aid of two little rubber bands. First drop to the bottom, 15 seconds, tap tap tap. I reel up, not much pressure so I reeled faster. Loaded up the rod a little. Came to the surface and he was small. Started to grab for the pliers to grab that hook. Took a 15 ft run. Brought him back and went to reach down, head shake and he was gone. Second salmon on the line in my life. Last was was probably in 97. Few more hits, got close to boating one but he came unbuttoned before I saw him. Got a sand dab too. Dude in that duck skiff with the office chair and trolling motor had no luck with the salmon so he went for dabs in a Sibiki. Boated a monster salmon on the Sibiki. I think he tossed all his barbed gear over board before heading in. I need to get out there again soon.

Lots of paid fishing captains didn't look so good yesterday in front of the customers AND ITS ALL OUR FAULT.. CONGRATULATIONS..lots of trophy fish caught ..
I have to admit I take special pride in out fishing a PB, especially when its a real expensive big boat. They may have speed, range and comfort, but they couldn't control their drift and trooch like a yak can.
I am not hating on PB's, more just loving the yak.
-
Sounds like yet another quality event.
I was jealous the entire weekend, but still had fun with the family at Ocean Cove.
Looking forward to making up for it at Albion.
-
On behalf of Chelsey and myself, I would like to thank everybody that made this day possible. We had such a great time, especially during the party barge! Thank you all for a memorable day!

My doctor at Stanford suggested that I join a cancer support group that they offer to all their cancer patients...I smiled and politely declined. I told her my support group is better then anyone else could ever have and wish for.

So True Mooch, so True...
Best Medicine one can have.... :smt004
Pretty Awesome Everyone...
Great job Jim and to Everyone who makes PIF such a success!!!
Brought the Family in on Friday with hopes of an early crash at the Monterey Bay Lodge and out on the Yaks to the fishing grounds by 6am... we did not get sleep ... lots of drama all around us at the Monterey Bay Lodge kept us up all night long.... :sleepy3: :sleepy3: :sleepy3: :sleepy3:
get to MBK pretty early as we were already up... rig up 4 kayaks for fishing the Big Blue... and you guys who think it's a bit of work to get only your stuff going... try 4... I'm busier than a centipede at a toe counting contest...
I'm never concerned about the landlord or anything else when I'm out there, but when I have my family on the Big Blue... it's different and I'm stressed... wife decides not to go out as the plan was to leave our dog in the car, but yesterday was a bit warmer an that was not going to work... so, de-rig one yak, lock it up and get the boys on the water...
going out, bit concerned as the fog line is right outside the harbor, I have GPS, compass, but I have not fished over that way ( Red Can ) and know how disorienting it is when your in fog soup and can not see land... too much to take on with the boys .... so we hung at the fog line for a hour... nothing so I decide we will go a little inland to pick up some rockfish... I see Kuba is a little bummed as I'm rigging up some rockfish jigs...
" I want to catch a Salmon...." Kuba says... wow... Got to Honor that determination....
were right even with the kelp ... I figure it can't be too far out to the red can, so we'll just start that way and see what happens...
The Fog Lifts!!!, Red Can and the fleet in full view... Awesome...
sure enough, half hour into it... Kuba is hooked up!!! I came in to net the fish, but position was not on my side... and even though I have a huge net, it basically got caught up on everything on my yak... finally get into position, blind sweep as it runs under my yak and it's in the net!!!!
Big Jim is right there with a Go Pro, and as much as I want to see it, my netting skills may get me banned from the site.... :smt012
So stoked Kuba got on a Salmon... he really wanted it and got it.... Very Proud of him...
Noah did great too and that would have been the ultimate if he hooked up, but I could tell he had fun anyway...
It's a ton of work setting this stuff up for the family, but nothing like it when ya see your family hook up, especially with such a kool fish...
Big Thanks to GB2 for all the advice, would not have happened without the paint by numbers set he put out there for us...
Sorry I could not stay for the PIF party, family was done, so was I, and we had to get back that evening for another family event... I know I talked to a few people there, and if I forgot your name or seemed quite scattered... don't take offense.. I was running on fumes and don't remember much as it was...
Great Job Everyone and thanks to all for what ya all do...
Pretty Awesome Indeed....
-
So cool to see Kuba hang in there with that fish and to see you net it...finally! :smt002
I put the footage of the final net job in my vid on page 1 of this thread Don, I will work on croping/editing all the footage of the fight for you...I stayed a little too far away to get great footage cuz I was afraid the salmon would run and I didn't want to get in the way!!
Your boy did great and so did you...really glad I was there to see it!!
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim

Thanks Jim,
That's so Kool ya got it on the Go Pro, really looking forward to it, and don't worry too much about how silly I look on it... I always lose it when the family are on fish.... :smt101
-
The go pro shots are pretty cool. I was hoping someone got a shot of me fighting my fish but didnt see anyone. Lol
-
Being my first NCKA event I must say how much I enjoyed hanging with the crew on and off the water! It's truly an awesome group that is out there for a common goal. I also had a wonderful time deploying nice herring and anchovies to the salmon ... I'm sure they enjoyed it.
To those who donated and those who participated ... Thank you!
I'm already looking forward to pif 2013. I should have a much larger item to donate by next year! Thanks again for all those I had a chance to paddle with.
Big Jim, that's a hell of a handshake! :smt044
-
I had a great time, I will not miss this event again.
This was my first time in a NCKA foodfest, You guys can cook!
Now I have to think of something good to bring to Albion, great to meet and talk to so many people with a good heart. Thanks again.

not much else to add, but I LOVE NCKA! so glad I could make it again!
Events like this show the heart and soul of the worlds most amazing community, the love we all have for each other (and the amazing food!)
Though I won an amazingly sweet drysuit, hanging out with my NCKA family made the weekend so awesome! and I know that when Henry gets here next month, he will already have an amazing NCKA family and support group to help show him how the good life is lived!
Thanks A Hulls and everyone else!!
-
Good times, good people, good food, good fishing, and most of all, a good cause. What a great job by all and a great event. Thanks everyone!
-
I had a great time once again! Thanks to all the sponsors and everybody who helped make it happen. My shoulders are still kinda sore from that night paddle with Sledge and Alien lol we got back on the beach at like 830. Still hammered. Whew that was a long day!

Wow what a great day. Always my favorite day of the year. Molly and I had a great time, especially Molly. :smt005
Thanks to the A Hulls for organizing, and all who donated prizes especially Jim. Thanks to all who brought food. I ate till I could eat no more. Sarah your curry was off the hook, post up the recipe.
Joel and Marv, you guys are cancer survivors. Keep fighting the fight. You are always in our thoughts and prayers.
The salmon derby raised $120 for PIF and it was great to see so many catch their first mooching salmon. RacinRob took 1st place with a beautiful 21# 5 oz king. Really nice to add some quality fish to an already great event.
I never intend to win anything in the raffle, because Nathan wins everything. :smt005 This year I won the Raptor and a Bending Branches paddle. I donated the Raptor to Heroes on the Water. The Raptor is an awesome design and perfect for NCAL fishing fresh or salt. I am trying to trim down and simplify my fishing equipment. I promised Karen I would get down to 2 kayaks by the end of the year so I had no room for the Raptor. Also, the Raptor is a sweet boat and should be paddled as primary kayak. The Heroes on the Water events are getting really big so it seemed like the right thing to do to pay the Raptor forward one last time. I donated a Loomis rod as a prize and was happy Chad won it. Chad puts in his time on freshwater and is a great guy. Pics to follow.
Really great catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. :smt006

It was an awesome event! Thanks so much for all your hard work you guys. Its getting more organized and it really showed this year in all that went down. I didnt get a fish but thats OK. I got my salmon the next day. What I did get was all the love and feelings that come with a group of people thrown together for a common cause that makes us all feel like real human beings. It does not get any better than that.
I got to meet new folks and reconnect with the southern crew. Pleasure to meet Alien the next day and see Marmite again.
I cracked up on the radio when the assholes in the PB's said, " all those idiots are in a raft." If they only knew what the hell we are about.
See you all at Albion. Stay tuned for more love.

I am hearing the news guy talk about how violent a country we are (( Colorado ))as I read this and I witnessed first hand the PBs attitude at PIF // the rental captain on the big boat from San Diego was trying to stare me and my limit into Davy Jones locker he was not happy with the Kayaks ...That being said I am thinking this weekend everyone fishing Monterrey should be extra careful , extra nice ,life vest extra snug , stay close each other and keep the go_pros on record. ...never know what a drunk weekend captain is going to act like.

I don't always go to kayaking events but when I do, PIF is on the top of my list!
Andie and I had a great time! We would like to offer a big hug and thank you to all the A-Hulls for hosting this event. Your hard work and energy is very much appreciated. Also, thank you to all the people that donated prizes, food and time to the cause. :smt006

Narisa and I had such a great time. This was our first PIF event and we are already looking forward to next year. I had been working in Palo Alto all week so we decided to drive in to Monterey on Friday and look for a hotel, spent about an hour looking on the internet for a place and couldn't find anything really in our price range so we decided we would drive in and look for something when we got there. After searching many hotels and finding them to be well over $200 we decided we would just sleep somewhere next to MBK. With one last effort we pulled into the veterans park to find Mooch still up and he was able to find us a spot. We slept in the truck and saved the hotel money for PIF.
The PIF event was such a fun and different event then most. It was great to be able to hang out on the water with all the crew. I just wish I would have brought some fishing gear. I really missed out on the fishing. There were only five of us that left from the beach to the buoy and when we got there it was so awesome to see all of the NCKA family.
Thank you to the A-Hulls and to all those that contributed to the raffle. We look forward to the next event.
Here is a link to some of the pics from the day on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151109992977090.499075.507487089&type=3 (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151109992977090.499075.507487089&type=3)
Until the next event stay strong, Mooch Strong.

Another PIF come and gone and I have to say it was amazing once again. A huge thank you to the A-Hulls and everyone who donated raffle prizes, food and their precious time to help out with a great cause. I had a total blast fishing, reconnecting with people I don't get to see often enough and eating the amazing food that shows up at these events.
I didn't land a salmon but had a great time giving it my best. Congrats to everyone who got some pink.
I can't wait for PIF 2013.
Oh and I promise to get some of my pics up when I get a minute. I got super sick the day after the event and am still recovering.
Again, a huge thank you to those that contributed.

Glad to help out with the WAF points. :smt004
It's always a pleasure to chat with Ana. She is super sweet. We should get the families together sometime for a BBQ or something. I know Christa and Ana would get along very well and Valentina may be a bit older than Aubrey but I think they would have some fun too.
Thanks again bro...I had a great time hanging out with you!
No doubt. Lets do it again sooner than later. :smt004

Thank you Jim for all the hard works making this PIF one of the most memorial events in the North Bay. Sorry for my late post but I was "busy" celebrating my birthday yesterday :smt003 Here are some pictures I took from last weekend...

Awesome day! Awesome event! Thanks everybody that helped put this thing together. Thanks to Jeff for the tasty Jello shots.
Here's my video. Just wish I had some better footage of slaying some salmon in it. That's why I can't wait until next year.

No parking ticket but I did try to PIF by giving my PAID parking pass to anyone looking to park. It was paid till midnight but nobody wanted it. Even had a front row spot for them right next to London Pub. Oh well .... it's the thought that counts, right?

Straight up awesomeness.
:smt007 :smt008 :smt007
I'd be a liar though if I didn't say that I thought we were gonna beat last years 9K mark....
I thought this years PIF was the best so far in MANY respects (weather, fishing, comraderie, variety of killer prizes, grand prize donated by an NCKA member, given by the winner to HOW etc) , but between now and next year I will be thinking of ways we can make it even COOLER....and, most importantly IMO, how we can generate even more $$ for the cause.
Love you Joel and am proud that I am able to help the A-Hulls out with this event.
:smt006
Sincerely,
Jim

The A hulls did an awesome job. I think the economy had something to do with the slightly lower revenues. This year was the best event ever and not just because of the fishing. It was the smoothest run event and Sarah did a great job as always. Kind of missed Porky and hope he can make it next year. The flotilla was great and the only time when we just hang out together on the water and party. My favorite day of the year and it exceeded my expectations. If you are looking for what NCKA is about, come to PIF and feel the love.

Scott, Pork and his family were there. He had to bail early while everyone was still landing b/c his daughter wasn't feeling it. Totally wish he had hung around to bs some more, too.
It was a great event. Had such a good time, and revitalized in me a yakfishing urge that had been somewhat dormant over this summer.
Wish I hadn't started my swim so late. next year i'll def make it to the OTW party on time lol. Its great to see families coming out in a friendly environment and everyone having a great time, and to promote the cause

That's great! Good job everybody! Makes me proud to be part of such a cool group. I think this year was the best so far: the fishing was rediculous, the potluck was scrumptious, and the raffle was awesome. When Scott's name was announced, I was so fired up! After putting a bunch of guys on salmon, it seemed like karma or something. Then, to donate the yak to HOW is 1 of the coolest gestures I've ever witnessed. So cool! And it's the perfect fishing platform for HOW due to it's unrivaled stability. Hella karma.

Scott,
I was looking for you as the yaks were coming in, I knew you would have some salmon! Unfortunately I did not see you before we left. I got to the beach early and did a dive with Jim and Nathan. I had my family meet me waaaaaay to early and my daughter was ready for a nap before the feast even started. If your out fishing this way soon, I coulduse some salmon lessons :)
Martin, Great talking with you, as always!

Sorry I missed you. I locked my keys in my car and had to wait in the parking lot for AAA to show up and missed you. Let's hook up this year.
