We were shocked.  :jawdrop
EVERYBODY was so nice to us! Mooch and FishHunter put me on a limit of striper, everyone shared the best food I have ever eaten while camping, and everyone treated us like old friends even though we had just met.

Are the little doggies making the trip?  :smt002

Yep, Steve and Bessie have their life jackets packed and are ready for the trip! I think Mooch has reserved Bessie's attention for at least part of the evening by the campfire.  :smt003

Sean

Could you post the latest sign up list for BAM.  By knowing who is signed up we could all get the word out to those who are not signed up.  It would help recruitment and assure many more BAMs in the future.

With lessons and loaned kayaks being offered up we should be able to get at least 80.

Thanks
AbMan

Hello everyone.  I just mailed my check for my son and I today. This will be our 2nd time kayak fishing. We have a couple of used kayaks and some old fishing gear.  We have never been to mendo and don't even know how to fish for stripers but we'll give it our best shot.  I got so excited when I caught my 1st LMB at Clear Lake that I flipped my kayak racing back to camp a couple of months ago.  We are looking foward to the food and fun (maybe even falling in the drink again).

I can only echo the same sentiments as everyone else.  BAM is a fabulous time to be had.  Last year was my first true NCKA event and everyone was so welcoming.  Not to mention I had some newb luck flowing my way as I was in contention early.  Sadly I couldn't upgrade and fizzled away. :smt010

I've got a friend that dropped his check and paperwork in the mail today.  It will be his 1st time on a yak, should be interesting as he is a clumsy one.  I've invited my father for 2 years running but both years he's had lame excuses.  He just doesn't appreciate the kayak fishing.  I've also invited my father-in-law for the last 2 years but he's had legit reasons - prior commitments.  He's in next year if it happens.

Curious Sean, what are the attendance numbers for years past?

Michael

It seems like everyone is willing to help the newbies, so here goes my concerns about mendo.
1) Is it easeir to get bit using minnows or artificial (where do I get minnows)?
2) Are there any electric plugs (I need my coffee pot)?
3) Can I make bait with a cast net (Is it legal)?
4) Any showers?
5) We will have a BBQ grill and feed those that we can bribe to help us.

Despite the fact that half of my fish came on artificials last year (read: lucky), I think it is easier using minnows.  I am buying my minnows locally (San Jose) before leaving for Mendo.

2) Are there any electric plugs (I need my coffee pot)?

I can't remember but people will be making coffee on the stove.

3) Can I make bait with a cast net (Is it legal)?

It has been discussed on the board before and I don't think this is legal.  Others will speak up if I am wrong.

4) Any showers?

I don't think so but the lake makes for a fantastic place to rinse off.

Bribery can go a long way. :smt002  Sadly I don't have an extra yak or I'd offer it to you.  In fact I'm having to borrow one for a friend.

Hope to see you Oct. 4th.

Michael

So far I only have one yak loaned out for the event. If you're holding back from going just because you don't have a yak, don't I can help out there.

We are already signed up and have our kayaks somewhere in the garage.  All we need to do is clean them up and we're there.

PaulR-

Way to go... I'm glad that you are going to jump in on the celebration. As far as what to use, Michael said it best... live bait is great. If you can find the schools of fish, tossing flukes can work really well. If you can't make coffee on a camp stove and MUST have your electric coffee maker with you... let me know and I can bring up a generator for you to use. Casting net... think more like using a dip net for shad. They are pretty small up there. And honestly, I wouldn't waste my time making bait. Showers, you have a couple of choices... bring a solar shower or you can drive over to Kyen and use the showers over there. Need any more tips...? Just ask...

And that pretty much goes with anybody out there. I know that there are a lot of great guys on this board that are willing to help. If I can't help or can't answer a question, I'm sure we'll be able to find somebody out there that can. This is a great event and you shouldn't let the fact that you are new or inexperienced keep you away.
