A stern but diplomatic call to Subaru North America may help you.

I know it did for a few of my fellow WRX owners with warranty issues that the dealer felt were "non-warranty".

Your are lucky this did not cause anyone bodily injury, it would suck so bad if you happen  to wipe out a biker or a pedestrian.
Go with Thule or Yakima.
Seeing is believing right?

I went Whisperbars from the start with my crosstrek. Sorry to hear those factory ones failed. The Redding Subaru folks have been great!

wow, glad no one was hurt, reminds me about 10 years ago I was driving from Tahoe on Hwy 50 and the winds were blowing at about 30 t0 40 mph and i was driving at 75mph, the force was so strong that rip my rack open and my snowboard flew off my truck and hit the front of a Porsche that was following me too close.

Use a bow strap and even if the bar breaks, comes loose, the kayak will stay facing forward and not exit the car stage left. Also use after market bars.

If it's rated for 170 and it's damaged at 60lbs that sounds like a factory defect.and the company needs to cover that.i bought a smoker that one of the parts had an issue and I called them they sent me a replacement, this should be the same.id call the news stations and blow this up as a serious safety issue.call NBC investigate or kron on your side or some crap.

I bought some deck over from home depot and they sold it to me without tinting it first.when I bought it I brought it to the paint station and asked about the lady there just gave me some stirring sticks and sent me on my way.any ways when I went back after I painted it I said something is not right so I read the bucket it said in very small print "do not use without tint" so I went back the acting assitant manager said all I can do is give you another one for 1/2 off.so I called the national home depot customer care line.needless to say the manager called me back fast and tried to fix  it.

When your the customer and the incident is not your fault don't take that crap.these companys make millions of dollars on use so hold them responsible for it
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

Actually hook one up before I left, then decided to remove it. It would have worn through the paint rubbing on the front of my new car.  Need to find some sort of cover to protect it from rubbing.

Pipe insulation. They sometimes come with a rubber tube like surgical tubing but I think that would eventually cause damage too.

Haven't looked under the hood on a newer outback but on our 2008 I tied two pieces of tent cord threw the factory holes in the fender just under the hood so that the cord comes up between the fender and side of the hood, the cord can be tucked in when not in use and hasn't worn off the paint yet. Para  cord would work as well. If your having a hard time picturing what I'm meaning I can post pictures if someone would like.

Please post it up. Tote has a unique way of tying his bow line too. I'd like to see him post up some pics as well.
