Ok. New here at Norcal kayak and brand new at kayak fishing. going to the delta this coming weekend and wanted to ask you more experienced anglers and kayakers; What is the golden rule as far as going to a crowded, popular place like the delta and keeping enough space between myself and other anglers?  Some people don't even want you on the same general area for fear of you taking their fish, others don't mind sharing the water so much.  So what's considered cool and what would be stepping over the line? Do you ask other kayakers if it's cool to fish right by them?  Thanks!!!

I think it depends on who you ask. If I can fish next to you without interrupting what your doing Im going to try, if I feel the need to do so. Ill give someone there space but on another note were all still fishing so Fuck em!  :smt004 :smt002

The Delta isn't really that crowded.  The Bass Boats all launch and go miles away from the launch points generally.  I fish the Delta all the time and I've only come across 5 other Kayak anglers that I wasn't fishing with all summer.  I typically just say hey and paddle to a different spot.  Generally, boats will avoid you if they see you.  The recreational boating scene should be a little slower now too.  Where are you launching?

The delta is pretty mellow, even with all the bass boat traffic on the more traveled sloughs it's easy to find your own space.  If you see someone fishing a bank just don't cut them off as they work up the line.  If you really need to fish an area, move in behind them, min 150 yds.

There's plenty of dicks out there however, I've been cut off while working my way up to big structural points on multiple trips this summer.  D-bags.

That slough you fish gets little to no pressure cause it sucks.  Those sporadic  tules in the middle of the slough used to be islands so it's all ridiculously shallow.  There's a channel on each side, the one side with the rolling meth labs camped on the levy road used to be choked with hydrilla and probably still is for the most part.

The other side used to cough up fish but never any real numbers for me and nothing of size.  Maybe it's changed but I doubt it.  Just my take, we used to have a houseboat up the road there.

I don't just fish one spot all the time but I'm guessing that you are talking about the slough along Holland Tract road?  I've fished there several times and gotten into decent fish.  The middle is pretty shallow that's for sure.  The Oxbow on the other side of the bridge typically holds nice fish.  I haven't fished that area for some time now but I was doing pretty good there May-July.
