Some friends are having a grill n' chill get together on Saturday at Oak Shores and I'll be bringing the kayaks along  for everyone to paddle around on. I also have a friend who really wants to get out and go after some fish while we're there. He's a novice so we won't be trolling for kokes or anything too technical. Honestly, I haven't fished for bass in years and admittedly most of my bass experience is on farm ponds and agricultural reservoirs. My plan was to get there early and the head for the islands ( Big/Little) and see what's home. Spinnerbaits ? Crankbaits ? Any suggestions or Intel would be awesome !

Was there 3 weeks ago, shad pattern square bills were the ticket
My biggest worry is that my wife(when I'm dead)will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it

The bass are shallow and I've been catching them on squarebill crankbaits and ripbaits. When the bite slows down underspins and Ned Rigs have been the ticket. Sexy Shad has been the hot color for me!

Since he is novice and what to catch, you cant go wrong on dropshot.

Thanks again for the info everybody. I ended up going solo since my prospective fishing partner opted for a beer and a lounge chair instead. Dropped in line with the rest of the bass boats hitting the west side of Big Island and immediately started hooking up with smallies on square billed cranks. No quality but enough quantity to keep it interesting. Headed back to Oak Shores by noon to get the BBQ going and take a jump in the lake.

Thanks again, all ! It was a great reminder of how much I've missed bass fishing.

Nice to get on fish, and I love how full Berry is right now - tons of good habitat to fish! :smt001
