South San Simeon 5/27

Well I missed hooking up with Ethan and Scott/GB2 yesterday, but I Made it out today.   Was on the water by 6 out of leffingwell, swell was not bad little offshore wind between 6:30 and 7:30 that was kind of chilly, Very overcast.  Fished my way up about 2-2.5 miles to southern San Simeon.  Caught a couple gophers and a nice red on the way up there.  the kelp is really starting to come in thick.  By the time I got up to the spot the wind had died down. stayed down until about 11:30.  The sun finally started to show abot the same time the wind picked up.  Fishing was kind of slow. I didn't do bad but certainly not like it has been in this spot.  Had one short Ling, two short cabezon all released, quite a few small gophers and black and yellows.  Ended up keeping the red, two good sized gophers, a 17" olive, and two good sized kelp bass for a bbq I went to today.  Ended up meeting Ethan and his family back at the launch, while i was loading up. they were just hangin out.  It was nice meet them and hear about there first lings caught with Scott yesterday.  All in all Fishing was okay,  the bite has just been a little slow around here for the past few weeks.  Pics of the red and a short Cabby.

Looks like I'm on track to finish up my current project a little early. I'm seriously considering an overnight drive home from Vegas Saturday for a few hours of fishing Sunday morning.

It was good to met you Dogpound. I hope we get the chance to paddle together some day. I'm down that way about every two weeks. If Ethan doesn't make it. It would be a pleasure to hook up with you sometime.       

Likewise eliazoo, Just post when you are coming down and we'll try and make it work.

WTG  Will be back the first week in August. Will try to hook up again. I have Sprint and have lousy cell coverage in Cambria so I had trouble hooking up last weekend.
