I have an idea about the sturgeon pot for 2006.  With sturgeon being a somewhat elusive species and the difficulties in measuring an oversize fish, etc... I'm wondering if we should run this pot like most of the sturgeon tournaments do it.

What I'm thinking is that we create a ticket for each 1/2 inch increment from 46 to 72 inches and draw one out of a hat.  That becomes the target size for the 2006 pot.  Whoever comes closest to the target size wins the pot.

I think this would be a fun way to run the pot and it would relieve everyone of the difficulties in potentially getting a measurement on an oversize fish.  It would put the emphasis on fishing and landing legal size fish and will make every hookup potentially a pot winning fish.

What are your thoughts?

I would feel like a winner if I would just catch one!  This sounds like a fun way to do it though.

Sounds good to me, I am with Sean though, I would be stoked to just catch a keeper.

I like the idea of making it a little smaller, I would hate to see someone get a fine from trying to keep a fish that is hard to measure in the first place, in an attempt to win the pot, but that said it would be nice to keep catching a big fish in order to win maybe we could just say the winning size is 69' inches then it's under limit size enough not to cause  some one to get a fine but still in the spirit of the contest of the bigger fish winning,

guest a thought, I'm ok with what everone feels good with :smt002

I think Eric's suggestion on the closest to the target length is a good approach. Hopefully the target length would not be 46" or 72" making measurement more difficult and risk greater.
