Take river road to hiway 1 and turn right proceed  20 miles or so until you launch. Take what you need and leave the rest. I gave up on markets. Way too much money and over 70% is farm raised.

"Ranch-99 Market".....LOCATED in the
Pacific Asian shopping center (which is positioned) on the
West side of Albany Hill, between the Hill and the freeway.

Get off at Central Avenue
Take the first right (SOUTH) after the Shell Station

This is one of the largest asian markets.
They have EVERYTHING.....a    h u g e     display-counter of fresh fish of every type on ice.   They have stuff that no other market has, or would have.

You can get Hot Sesame Oil here for $2 (rather than $8 at Safeway).....!!!!!!!.......YES...!!!!!!.....

This is a fabulous place......
A fabulous place.........
It is so fabulous it makes your eyes bug out......
There is stuff here you've never eaten before.......
There is stuff you've never   t h o u g h t   of eating....

My GOD I love this place

Judd

The ocean! What are we, average consumers or fishermen? The only seafood I ever buy is the occasional can of sardines, canned pink salmon, or oysters from Tomales Bay. Otherwise, there is too much bycatch, waste, and destruction involved.

Ranch99 off Skyline in Daly City is pretty good for dungies in a pinch.

Costco actually has some really nice, big shrimp.

Rarely buy fish, though, so not sure how they are for that.

Haven't been to a "fish market" for over a decade! At least, not to BUY fish to eat. Bait, yes. All the time. Monterey Fish Co or the tiny Vietnamese market near my house.

Was in Boston last week, where I dined at LEGAL SEAFOODS flagship property, Boston Harborside.  Three levels, each offering a different experience, environment.  Had all the New England classics, and server cracks lobsta' tableside upon request.  Great concept, excellent fare = Highly recommended.  (not just saying that bc I ate with their general counsel . . . but it was his treat)  Check it out next time in BOS.

Also ate at a dive in Gloucester.  I ordered Atlantic Cod.  No telling what it was, crusted in panko and baked, thick and flaky.  But it seemed too delicate, thought cod had a little more robust texture and density.  It was delicious anyway, and eating cod in Gloucester seemed like ingesting history w each forkful.  Sure would be a nice place to spend a weekend and take in the fishing culture

Nobody said Berkeley Bowl.  Flies out of the counter, so It's always fresh and I have heard they give the commercial guys a good price.  Of course, Monterey Fish on Hopkins in Berkeley is a classic.

I split my time between San Francisco and the south bay. Cook's Seafood on El Camino Real in Menlo Park is consistently fabulous, and I'm also a big fan of Sun Fat Seafood in the Mission.

Besides hmb whole foods (catching or just fishing the entire time), asian live seafood market. Not a lot of places have spiny lobsters, live king crab and geoduck with color (aka fresh and not been held captive where they're white). A lot of places have the basic stuff but this place has the seafood that is harder to find in the bay.

I'll second that. I have to check out both of those places. The oysters in the Bodega area have gone way up for some reason. $70 for 50 oysters, kind of over priced when you are buying that quantity. I'll check out Sun Fat...
