I saw a post in CL about a 2018 Hobie Outback. Looks decent enough to consider desperate for a hobie. I had a chat with the owner, nice laid back I think he is paramedic/firefighter. I went up and pick it up. Talked to him more and he only used once (he has 2 the other was taken). He bought them for $2499 each +tax, I trusted the man. After the incident on my beach landing I needed the serial number only to find out its 2017. I contacted him again and he says I’m told by the “shop” they are 2018. And ask me how do you figure out the year? I said its the last 2 digit of the hull. I didnt make a big deal he clearly didnt know. He send me copy of his receipt and the description does says 2018 outback. Still bugs me what would have happen if CCK Oakland didnt come through. Im about to warn noobs buying kayak to avoid this place using Internet (yelp, IG, FB and Tweeter) if this is MO of the store if they knew the buyer is noob or if they are shipping. Note the 2 outbacks are shipped. I also bought kayak from this store before and told its brand new but didnt disclosed it was blem. I figured it out myself. Should I blast this store or should I reach out to them first?

New Tacoma manufactured and drive in the Oct 2018 is called a 2019 Tacoma.

My 2016 Hobie Island was actually made and sold in 2015.

Does the 2015 reflects on the hull? This one is the opposite sold 2017 and said 2018 model. Warranty reflects by serial number isnt it?

I don't know if this helps at all, but it looks like there is a Manufacturing date # and Year Model Date. the last 2 numbers are the Year Model date, so 2016 even if it was build in 2015, it would say 16. ex,
CCMB2345H989  9 = 1989 Manufactured date, 89 = 1989 Year Model.  so if it's a 2017 build 2018 model it would be 718 either way the model year would be the model year.

For Hobie you should be looking at three last digits:

Last digit of the year of manufacture.
Last two digits of the model year.

A: Month of manufacture – A (January) through L (December).
7: Last digit of the year of manufacture.
08: Last two digits of the model year.
