So I love kayak fishing my wife likes peddling calm water on occasion and we have a 4-1/2 year old(currently) grandson two dogs one big one small, a Subaru Outback and a yak trailer. If our vacation revolves around kayak fishing only not only am I going alone it will be in a pine box or urn to be spread at sea. I deal ratio is 1 fishing to every 3 days family fun. Here is my question if we rolled that direction next year Disney land obviously for 4days or more straight  :smt012 when's the best time to come and what 101 rt family fun things are there to do with a 5 yr old as we cruise our way down the beautiful pacific coast line. Hotels most likely. Also what days work for guys willing to take a not so old crippled guy out to sea in the good spots swells permitted, for me nothing over 4-5 and no wind over 12-15 mph. I have salt experience but never go into the sea alone. Feel free to post up or shoot me a pm. Thanks and tight lines. Pre apologize if my stupid smart phone mid-autocorrected any thing.  :smt003

Monterey is nice. Lots of family friendly activities too. I'd suggest Sept/October because that's our best weather (least foggy) and no tourists. There are a few hotels/motels that are close enough to the beach to Wheeleez from your hotel.

San Diego?  You could go to sea world, fish la jolla....or get on a full or 3/4 day boat which will probably be money this year.  Hit Disney on the way home.
..........agarcia is just an ex-kayaker

THIS!  Definitely try to fish La Jolla or hop on a charter.  Only downside will be finding a partner to kayak fish with in La Jolla unless you hire a guide.  But there's always other kayakers fishing there so you wouldn't be completely alone.

There's Disneyland, Universal Studios, and Legoland that I can think of to entertain the little one.  Good luck.

You could drive Garibaldo, OR to SF in 11 hours (ouch).

SF would be worthwhile as staging point considering there is soooo much to do for both you and the kids.
*you yakfish Muir, kids go to Fisherman's Wharf/Pier 39/Exploratorium

From SF, you drive to Disneyheim for your multiple day excursion
*you yakfish Newport for sand bass and halis, kids explore the land of Walt & Mice.

From Disney, you head to San Diego area
*you do 3/4 charter for exotics, kids go to Legoland.

From SD, you head north to Santa Barbara.
*you yakfish Goleta for WSB, RCG, and calicos.  Kids go to SB Zoo then chillax at the bizeach.

From SB, you continue north to Pt. Arena/Albion.
*you yakfish Mendo Coast (definitely need a local hookup, not to be done solo).  Kids, well, I don't WTH they'd do here.  Weave a basket, pick berries, just do camping/beachy/kid stuff.

*alternatively, instead of SB, you could stop in Monterey (see above post).  many of us have Aquarium passes, can get you in there (and other places) no charge.

Loving the ideas and replies keep them coming , my fishing to family fun days must include me in the family part or y'all would be spreading my ashes in all the for mentioned above fishing places, being forcibly retired means we can take some time on the way down as well as loiter in different areas for 3-4 days and the the above mentioned regular mouse and "killer black and white shark-fish" tourist attractions are a must and TLW and our now adult children have been, but the Lego place sounds like a must, never been and I like Legos as much as my grandson. The only issue that might come up is my service dog is a rottweiler. What's the take on that hotel wise?

This. Plus you have the Monterey bay aquarium and Cannery Row. I believe there are Members who have annual passes to the Aquarium that have donated to Peeps in the past.
