Count me in for this. I've always wanted to fish HMB.

I'm in, but would love to know the date as soon as possible. I have zero saltwater fishing experience, so need a few pratice runs for something other than Bass and Trout.

Is there camping in the area, or do we need to find a hotel?

     Camp Sites along the coast......
« on: December 13, 2004, 10:30:26 pm »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Half Moon Bay State Beach (650) 726-8820

- for those who want to be closer to the epic Linda Mar Salmon season
- HMB kayak crabbing / poke poling / rock fish opener
- surfer dudes

Ocean front camp sites / bathrooms and plenty of parking. Only 52 campsites (call for reservation). Walking distance golf range. Safeway, gas station, HMB Main Street and restaurants all within a mile!
Unfortunately, the beach kayak launch is TOUGH - BIIIG SURF!

camp site # 36,37,38,34,32,30,28,26,24,22,19,17, and 16 are the best - closer to the shoreline! I believe dogs are allowed as well.

The site is located a couple of blocks South of HWY 92 - off HWY 1.

Vince, HMB is a easy launch from the harbor, no surf at all.

This is a great event for all you guys that want to give the ocean a try. Lots of experienced people and a rescue boat on call from HMB kayak company.

Vince, by the time July roles around even if there was a surf launch you will be well seasoned.  Especially after Coach Selli gets done training you!! :whip2:

So, does everyone that paid for the OP tourney get free entrance to the HMB tourney?

In Loving Memory of Mooch, Eelmaster, Shicken, and Cabeza De Martillo

I started kayak fishing to get away from most of you...

Sorry Rockhopper but no. If we have a raffle I would consider giving the OP entrants an extra ticket.

Has the actual date been set yet?

If not, and we have a choice,  I'd like to cast my vote for a Saturday rather than Sunday event.

Saturday is always an ideal fishing day - Sunday fishing is like picking off the left overs from Saturday :smt002

NCKA Halfmoon Bay Kayak Fishing Derby
Pillar Point Harbor, Halfmoon Bay, CA
Organizer: NorCal Kayak Anglers
Sponsors: California Canoe & Kayak, Hobie
Targetted Fish: Rockfish, Lingcod, Salmon, Halibut

July 16th is a Sunday. One thing to remember is with sponsors we are somewhat at the whim of there schedules. Sponsors bring great prizes so it is a bit of a trade-off. HMB will still be good though, it is only a few weeks after the opener.

Not always true.... according to Jason, Sunday at Oyster Point was better.....
Yesterday the water @ OP was as flat and blue and as calm as I had every seen it.  No wind either. What a difference one day makes.  It looked like lake Mendo.
Jason

Anyways, July 16th is the date that Kenny Howell (California Canoe & Kayak's Program Director) and I selected.  The date is also being published in the July issue of Paddler Magazine.  I plan to meet with Kenny at CCK's HMB facility next week.  If the date changes, I'll let you guys know... but I doubt it.
