NRS 3 mil. It zips in the front, a very nice feature. Reasonably priced as well.

I always catch something when I fish, but it's usually only a buzz.

+1
With base layer top and bottom under it. Nice and warm even when wet, not too hot if it's sunny. Base layer also takes up the perspiration and skin oil, keeps the wetsuit nice and clean.

x2    also the grizzly version is not really for just 'fat' guys..its stretch so it does not need to be all that big to be tight...grizzly farmer john takes shit ton of abuse..nrs is great product...zippers at ankles will load with sand ,can fail eventually..years on though....nrs farmer is tough stuff

Patagonia midweight Polartec top, 32 Degrees Heat leggings (from Costco)
Also HydroSkin wetsocks inside the booties.
Keep in mind I'm in Mendo... anything over 70F is a hot day...

I've been gearing up for ocean fishing. Just purchased a 2mm farmer john wetsuit, After reading this post, I'm wondering if I should of bought a thicker wetsuit?  I read reviews the 2mm is good for 20 minutes in 45 deg water, I hadn't planned to be in the water for more than 5 minutes. Is that a bad plan? I will be wearing PDF with other clothing to stay warm.

Plan to fish Monterey Bay, SF bay, and Half Moon Bay on calm days and not too far out.

After you get out of the water after a dunking, it can actually feel a lot colder, especially if there is any wind and/or overcast.  Better to be slightly uncomfortably warm when dry that to be cold when wet - though what you should wear seems to be an individual thing, within limits.

I wear this Stohlquist 3mm farmer john in the bay and it is more than enough to keep me warm even when I've gone into the water. I also wear a waterproof North Face tri-climate jacket (one of the lighter ones) that I got from the outlet in Berkeley because it's almost always windy out there where I launch.

With their coupons and sales you can get this down to as low as $50 (which is how much I paid for mine).
