Hi everyone, I need some help. I have  a Garmin echo 300c with the large 12v battery sold by Hobie. I replaced the battery about one year ago. It worked excellent for about 10 trips. Now the battery will not charge...it reads about 7.5 volts after three tries to charge. I left it on overnight.
The battery charger has the green light on after each charge. I am a 40 plus year union electrician and have a accurate Fluke meter....no problem there.
It is either the charger or the battery.
Does anyone have a Hobie 12v charger or a similar charger I can try charging my battery with? I am in the Humboldt area, Blue Lake, and can leave the battery with you....along with a 6 pack of your favorite IPA...or if you need any Humboldt "medicine".
I will attach pictures of the battery and charger. Thanks, Ron

Sounds like a typical dead sla battery to me. If you’re an electrician, you should know how to measure the output voltage of your charger. If it’s between 12-14v, your charger is good.

I would check the connection between the battery and charger.  If you have difficulty borrowing a charger, you might consider purchasing a backup charger.  I recently purchased one from Amazon.com for $15.

Get a new battery. I normally change mine out every year because I always leave the battery empty and that's bad for SLA batteries. They're normally around $20 shipped on eBay or Amazon.

With all lead batteries,, the deeper the discharge, fewer charge cycles.   Only the marine lead acid batteries are designed to take deep discharges.   That is because marine batteries have thicker lead plates.    It helps to recharge the battery as soon as possible.
Best solution...   Switch to  Lithium type power source.

Its probably the battery, have you checked the charger with the load of the battery connected? If the charger voltage drops below, 12vdc connected to battery then obviously the battery can't charge properly.
I like that little meter mentioned above! Might have to get one now!

I swear this is true....over 40 years in the trade as a union electrician. I have made every mistake possible. Same as a fisherman....every mistake you can make I have made at least once,.... no twice!

My new battery would not charge because....my power strip was turned off! What a jackass! Took me three nights to figure it out.
Don't hate me for it or verbally abuse me...I don't think I can live thru it!
Thanks to all for the advice, I needed it, Ron

Awesome batteries. I've had one just like that for years and it's still going strong.

yeah but that's a whole gauge deal... I prefer something on the battery itself. Less wiring to deal with.
