Kayaking, I'm planning on going to Doran Beach to fish and crab on Jan. 14th, Sunday or Monday morning.  From the Monterey area it is about a 3-hour trip up.  I Have never been there, are there any suggestions and or comments on using the day camp areas.  Does anyone know if it will be a problem finding a place to park? And the best place there to launch a kayak?  Thanks..

Jay

When you look outside the window, and all you see is fishing. True Story.

There's day use parking at the end of the spit, which is also the most sheltered spot to launch. The day use parking opens at sunrise, so if you get there reasonably early you shouldn't have a problem getting a spot. Frankly, I can't imagine driving all the way from Monterey to crab and fish at Doran, but to each his own.

There should be a plenty of parking at day use area and launch is very well protected.

We've never been there and would like to check it out prior to Crabfest plus it's a holiday weekend= Road trip+fishing.  Doesn't get any better than that! :smt001

Just a heads up, Bodega's forecast calls for a 10.5'-11' W swell on Monday.  https://swell.willyweather.com/ca/sonoma-county/bodega-head.html
