All,

I'm still fired up about the loch lomond opener.  I will be at the gate at 5:45.

I will be on channel 71 if you have VHF.  Come say hi.  I will be in the lime green drifter.

My bad.  Tuesday the first.  Santa Cruz mountains.

Stocked with trout
local populations of largemouth, bluegill, green sunfish, and apparently a couple of channel cats.

Damn straight I'll be there.   Look for the Big Red OK Malibu II XL.  Yeah, baby!

Oh, and I'll be playing hookie.  Anyone know if there's cell phone coverage up there?  I need to dial into one conference call that day and I don't want to drive down to Felton to do it!

This'll be my first real trouting.  I've done some (mostly unsuccessful) trout targeting from shore but never from my kayak before...

Suggestions on rigging, bait, etc. are GREATFULLY appreciated.

Thanks!

BigRed -

Eversince I started yak fishing for trout, I've seem to have caught more trolling than drifting with bait.

Here's my tip......

I paddled around for six hours and had only one hit. I look forward to hooking up with you guys on trip a sometime. Thanks again.

Dave- here's my secret = Use your fish finder and troll along the lip of the shoreline - make sure your on 6 to 10 feet of water. I've had success using a shad rap.

I've hooked up with small mouth bass, large mouth bass and a catfish as well - with this method. I've seen the boaters troll the lip as well - but the problem is some of them use their main motor instead of a trolling motor -  Too much noise!  Some troll to fast as well. IMO - our kayaks have the perfect trolling speed (casual paddling).

Give this a shot and let me know how you do! Good Luck!

Well, I was skeptical went out after striper in the Forebay...   but I caught a bunch of different fish trolling the transition between weeds and deep water.  I was already planning on doing some of that Tuesday, anyway.

I've got that mid-water jointed rapala, too, that has been lucky.   I'm looking forward to some serious trolling in salt water later in the year, too!

Joel,

Bring some big ole bass swimbaits.  We're going hog hunting.  We can play with the whimpy little trout later on.

Looking forward my first hook-up in my new Hobie outback fisherman.  I'll be picking it up this comming Tues (the 8th) it's been a while since I limited on trout, but when I did, it was from my 12'alum. gregor boat.  I couldn't keep the fish off my 3/16oz yellow roosterltail near the top!
Only bass I've ever landed there was from the bank!  She was hanging in the pocket of the flat wall stump in the first cove, a nice fat 5 lb'er! I thought I was snagged, till the snag pulled back! :smt003
later that day, with my ultra-lite I landed a nice fat open palm sized crappi.  It was heavy enough that the 3'6" ultra-lite pole almost couldn't hoist it!
Since I can't use my float tube there, a kayak will be fun!

You'll love your Outback Fisherman.  There's no better kayak for bass fishing a lake.
