Title: Scotty lake troller downrigger
Post by: Ibewyakattack83 on September 18, 2017, 09:14:13 PM
I'm selling like new Scotty lake troller. It's been used two times and I have it spooled with 40 yards of 100lb braid. It comes with a Scotty deck mount. 60 $$

Not to hijack your thread but how do you know how deep your dr ball is with the braid? I got the same dr and I hate the humming. I'm just too afraid to change it out and lose the easy "one turn=one foot" method. I could use my ff but I like to know exactly how deep I am, and in deeper waters, 40+ it's hard to know exactly down to the foot.

You thinking the difference in the diameter of the loaded spool or braid versus cable is going to affect the line counter?

There's definitely some truth to that, but I expect the difference would be insignificant in terms of actual number of fish caught.

If you're worried about it, I suggest leaving most of the cable in the spool and tying (or crimping) a couple hundred feet of braid to the end of it. That way the spoon diameter will be effectively the same.

I usually drop my downrigger ball and watch for it on my fish finder. I usually let an extra few feet out to compensate for a little blowback. I use braid to cut down on the humming and just incase the ball snags I can use my knife to cut the braid. I've thought about putting bobber stops every 5ft to give me a guesstimate of how much line i've let out, but my fish finder sees the ball just fine.

+1 The few times that I do use my downrigger, I check it this exact way on my FF.  Besides, that 1 turn = 1 foot isn't very accurate and you'd waste more time counting turns...slow your speed when deploying so you can see the DR weight on your finder.

metered braid is awesome for kayak downriggers. I haven't done it yet as I have too many other things and my FF gets me close enough.

Get depth counter braid. Marked every 5 feet. Color change every 25 feet.

Not sure if I will be fishing hmb this weekend. Can he transfer it to Fishcomb? He is in San Jose, and I will get it from him?
