who here would like to experience fishing garrapata (5 min south of carmel) and combining it with an event for mooch? i know not many people fish this area but i have had a few opportunities to do so and i feel those who have not yet fished here would find this place absolutely amazing.

garrapata is a tough place to get in the water due to a walk with your kayak and down a small cliff but with teamwork its always doable and its one place i never regret fishing at in good / tough conditions.

if we can get a bunch of people together this would be a great event to make a donation and a fun way to help our fellow fishermen out.

i dont get out much these days due to having a child but i'll make some WAF points to make it happen if anyone is game.

There's got to be a less-gnarly spot than Garrapata. Seriously, that spot is dangerous for a bunch of reasons (bring yer helmet and a shark shield). Maybe just do Monastery beach instead? That w/b a cool spot and could accommodate an after-fishing type of event too.

Except when Mooch tries to launch up the middle b/c he's too lazy to drag his boat 25 yards south...   :smt044  Maybe that would be a good spot just for old time sake

Mooch knows Garapatta well. We dove down there and he left the water with out telling his dive partners  :smt013

If you do go ahead with this idea, I may join the support by being there and fishing on the rocks while all are on the waters. I've rockfished many times out at Garapatta, and I definitely know that I am not ready to yak fish with you there. However I'd like to do whatever I can do to show my support to NCKA as well as to Mooch.

I'm in.  That sounds fun.  If we can get Ravensblack to go, he'll carry my yak down for me.

Get a date going and I'll try to be there....It would be nice just to sit in a lawn chair and take in the scenery!

Thanks John!!!

I'm with you Joel. Sit on the beach and grill man dogs. I've fished Garapata a few times and the last time some of the surfers were wearing helmets.  :smt010 There is some good shore fishing a mile south at rocky point also. I would launch if it is FAC, but even on good days, Garapata is technical.  :smt011

Garapatta is just so beautiful!! I'm very lucky to have it very within my neck of the waters. Plus the fishing action can be good if you know what you are doing out there. Just a couple days ago, couple buddies and I went out for a couple hours. We ended up with a 23" cabbie, 27" smurf ling, and couple RF. Here's a pic of my buddies 23" cabbie off the rocks.

I was trying to find that report from a few yrs ago when Mooch & Co launched from my shore spot called 3 Coves. I still think that was pretty crazy. Couldn't find it but did have fun browsing through the archives.
