Title: New to the forum!
Post by: Skipjackrick on February 04, 2010, 09:20:21 AM
Wow, that registration process is a nightmare.  But Im here!

Just thought I'd introduce myself.  Vince at Hobie Fishing told me to come and check this place out so here I am!

I fish primarily in TX but I make the trip up to your neck of the woods every now and then and I want to get some fishing tips on how to tackle salmon, halibut and Ling Cod from the yak.

welcome aboard, our out-of-state friend.  I'm a newbie, but there are a lot of seasoned folks here to lend a helping hand.  I've gotten tons of advice and have met a lot of great people OTW.

Thanks for the invite.  Salmon?  Really?  I guess I am ignorant on the subject.  I did hear some news a few years ago maybe about Arnold closing commerical salmon fishing.  I guess that has something to do with it?  Humans always screw things up.  Over 1 million species on this planet and we're the only ones that leave trash and screw up the balance of life...Go figure.

Doing more research for Hero's on The Water,

I got to the members numbers......

 Close to 16,000 !!!! :smt101 :smt107 :smt103

High school tournaments for scholarships, programs, benefit concerts, etc... etc...

Yeah, but that number is way inflated.  They had major problems with spammers and never deleted the users.

The real number is more like 6000 to 7000 users.

However, we run tourneys and stuff down there and we have trouble getting 25 people to show up?  How does that work?  Something isn't right with that number.

I thought the numbers were a bit high for those reasons, but twice the real amount, and really surprised about the turnout on tourneys...

The NCKA Mods are up on " Weeding out the Weak... " so the numbers are true and not unusual for a larger event like Abion, HMB, Monterey, Santa Cruz,  rockfishing tourneys in the 80's of participants,
we grow each year....

Thanks for the info on TKF, guess they have their work cut out for them in some of their projects...

Yeah, the guy that put it all together apparently like screwed over some major Kayak companies by running a Kayak Fishing tour in Texas.  The entries were like $75 per person.  They had like 100 people or so enter and for some reason the payout was around $300 for first place?

Ok....so where did the other $7000 go?

They did this many times.  Now those tournaments are gone.

Cool deal.  We do the same thing with Kayak Wars and make people re-register every year to verify that they are still an active user.

Welcome aboard Rick.  I used to live in Texas for about 10 years prior to moving to California for a job after graduation.  My Mom, brothers, and sister are still living there in Dallas and Houston.  I go back there a couple times each year and fish with my brothers every chance we got.  Let us know when you're coming and we'll hookup.
