Title: Just ordered my C-135 "YukAttack"
Post by: funpilot on May 28, 2016, 11:16:13 AM
My long personal debate between the Eddyline C-135 vs the Santa Cruz G2 has ended with my going for the Eddyline.  I am calling it the YukAttack because I have ordered a color combination that I am told the owners of Eddyline did not like...but I am not the first to ask for it.  I am getting the yellow top with the grey bottom so that it is more visible.  No question in my mind that the green is prettier.  As for the grey bottom: It should hide scratches better than the white bottom so that is why I selected that.  Thus, my YukAttack!  I also ordered it with the rudder and I may eventually want to add a torqueedo and thought that having it "prewired" for pedal control was a good idea.  If anyone from Eddyline reads these forums, I challenge you to come up with a custom sticker for my kayak (YukAttack)  ... I will wear it with pride.

Awesome! I'm sure you are going to love it! The color combo doesn't sound bad... wonder why they would say that. Anyway, welcome to the club!

I do not think it will really be that bad, just having fun with the name for my kayak ....

Awesome. I think it sounds like a cool color. I wonder if they now have a yellow bottom/grey upper for sale?

Congrats on the new kayak! It will be unique, and the yellow will stand out. Can't wait to see the finished kayak, post pics when it arrives.

Only options for the hull are grey or white. Green, yellow, silver and white (?) Upper.

I talked to Eddyline today.  They told me they are working on a Torqeedo reinforcement mounting plate for the back inside of the kayak. The plan is to be able to retro-fit it for any of us that already have one.  I gave them an idea of another approach that is used by the inflatable kayak industry.  If it would work here, it would be a removable mount that would tie into the Yak Attack tracks that could be added back there.  The new mount would span the kayak and NO STRESS BEARING HOLES, except for the tracks, would be needed in the kayak as the holes would be in the mounting plate. As a person that has zero hours of engineering, I am guessing that the tracks might better distribute the stress than the inside plate.  As you can imagine, they do not put holes in inflatable kayaks.  And, I told them about the nickname for my kayak....laughter was heard every where.  Here are the pics I sent them.  If any of you has a better idea, they would love to hear it.

I am looking to add an umbrella to my C-135.  I have found a very nicely constructed one that has a kayak mount among its options. I talked to the owner of Pro-Techt and he thinks the kayak mount would work well inside a rod holder on the blackpac.

There are numerous other mounting options as well.

Here is a comprehensive review from 2004 that is still valid today (other than pricing and multiple base options beyond those listed in this post).

Below is a picture of it mounted in the YakAttack tracks.

Looks like Eddyline has decided not to make their own motor mount.  One of their dealers (The Kayak Fishing Store) is developing one if its own and they will refer interested customers to them.

I emailed Eddyline on my idea about installing the Pro-Techt umbrella and mounting it to the BlackPak. Here is what they said:

------------------------------------------

That looks like a real nice Bimini top.  Should work well, however I question whether mounting it on the BlackPak would be best. There are several reasons for this, but mostly because it would limit your access to the BlackPak itself.  Additionally, putting straps and associated tie downs to secure it would be messy.

My suggestion would be to have us install two 4” GTTL90 Top Loading Gear tracks into the recessed circular areas behind the seat.  I’ve measured it out, and it would fit perfectly, given the 26 ½” maximum spread on the Kayak Mounting Bracket.  I like the idea of using that bar because it would spread the stress to each side of the boat.  I’m  not as worried about the actual weight of the unit itself, but rather the potential stress originating from variable wind conditions.

-------------------------------------------------------

Eddyline also asked that I purchase the umbrella now and send it to them so they can be sure there are no surprises....so off to do that.

Got a call from Tom regarding their receiving my Pro-Techt umbrella and kayak mount.  He said that the umbrella looks very well made and that the way they plan to install it on the kayak with the kayak mount should make it look like it was made for it.    That was the good news.  He then told me it will be a few more weeks before they can ship it so that tells me they may have held up production on mine for the umbrella.   Sigh ....

I got to play with one of those Mantis Bimini units a number of years ago.  I hope they have worked out some major issues it had.  The model I received from them used double stick tape to hold the canvas to the structure.  When it got hot out, the tape let go.  I'd make sure you really like the top before modifying a kayak specially for this top.  Just my 2 cents.

Thank you very much for that word of caution.  I will look carefully at that when I get the umbrella.  I was told that if I do not like it, I can return it.  The mount we put on the kayak can serve many other purposes, so no worries there if I return the umbrella.

Great to hear about the mount.  I liked the concept of the umbrella but was less than happy when we got one in to demo - granted it's been over 10 years now & they were JUST coming out at the time.

I believe this is a current picture of the underside of the umbrella.  It looks to me like it is held in place with metal rods like ordinary umbrellas today are.  Is this what you remember?

Similar.  The older model I had was double stick taped to the main bar in the middle.  Looks like they have come a long way in their quality.  Other than that, looks quite similar.

Just got two pics of my  kayak showing me how they installed my umbrella.  One has a workbench in the background with a horizontal pipe that looks like it is part of my kayak .... NOPE.

That looks awesome!

Can't wait for your review! As a JK big rig owner, I'm really interested in how you like your c135.

Well time for an owner report.  I just love this kayak.  It is everything as advertised.  Definitely stable and I the seat is quite comfortable.  The only thing I would not do again is get the umbrella as that has turned into a sail on windy days.  It fits quite nicely into my Avalanche with the back seat folded down!  And I can unload and load it myself at the age of 68.

I originally thought I would not use it for fishing, but that has changed.  So now I am thinking through what I still need.  Next up will be pole anchors...something I am sure you do not use that often.

Yeah that umbrella looks like something bad is about to happen.

Besides it becoming a sail it looks like it could possibly cause righting issues if your yak was to flip on you. Don't need that extra drag when you are trying to self rescue.
