When Joel came up I was telling him top-secret info about why I decided to move to Ukiah.  He said it sounded like a sportman's paradise.  As far as I am concerned it is.

My kid is doing an angler survey for a science fair project.  This guy hit this nice little buck while we were there.  I took this photo about 5 minutes away from where I launch for stripers.  Does it get much better?

When I made the trip with Joel and my brother Mike, we all were amazed how incredible Lake Mendo is.  The weather was warm, 75 to 80 and the water was glass except for a little wind in the afternoon.  The Stripers are Huge and when I spoted a boil from the point, it was jump in my kayak and paddle as hard as you can time.   Its definetely Gods Country and I can't wait to get up there soon!

Is that a Steelhead? never caught one

Yep thats a steelie.  That is a fairly small, and dark male.  This fish was about 5-6 pounds or so,  bigger ones are over twice this size.  Brighter, fresher fish are more silvery, and a lot hotter.  The Coors in the waders is pure Ukiah old school, especially considering it was like 9:00 am!

Hey Sean,

Don't worry about Joel making it up there.  #1.  He can't drive and follow directions.  Even with a map.   #2.  He will never drive up there because he thinks a 1 hour is a long drive.  The times he has been to the Forebay.  He has told me that "if I need to drive and hour or over.  I would rather sleep over than drive home."

Joel ex-buddy,

Ken kickfish
