Central Coast Kayakfishing Adventures is gearing up for the 2005 season and ready to offer our expertise on kayakfishing all of the Central Coast Fisheries. It already looks like we’re gonna have some killer fishing opportunities: huge schools of salmon have already been spotted outside of Santa Cruz and Moss Landing, a few halibut have been caught in shallow (very rare up here this time of year), and, due to the 7 month closure, all our kelp beds and reefs will be loaded with huge rockfish and lings (its not uncommon to catch over 100 rockfish on one of our rockcod trips).

Our trips are designed for the beginning to advanced angler, and a day of kayakfishing with us will be planned in advanced to fit the needs, species targets, and requirements of each of our clients. We have put in hundreds of days kayakfishing the waters off the Central Coast, and are well versed in fisheries surrounding all of the launch spots from Montana De Oro (Near San Luis) to Half Moon Bay (near SF).

For the beginning angler, we cover all of the basic knowledge necessary to get one out on the water on their own after one trip. Some of our topics include: kayakfishing gear, kayakfishing boats, safety, weather concerns, local fisheries, electronics, species specific habitat, species specific techniques, live bait fishing, etc.

For the more advanced angler, we offer trips out of some of some of the most remote, and beautiful, spots found off Californias Coast. We’ve already gained a bit of local fame for our trips down into Big Sur, where 8 lb reds and 25 lb lingcod aren’t uncommon.

We are now fully outfitted with 5 top of the line fishing kayaks, and all necessary equipment, which can be rented for a minimal cost. We offer individual and group guided trips out of your favorite launch spot, or you have the opportunity of letting your guide make the choice for you based on the most recent reports. Discounts available for 2 or more anglers, or if a double booking opportunity arises. Our already reasonable prices are based primarily on the distance we have to travel.

Some of the fish we’ll be catching this year include salmon, halibut, white seabass, lingcod, cabezon and all of the nearshore and deepwater rockfish species.

Here’s a schedule of when certain target trips will be available:

Salmon in the beginning of April
Rockfish and lingcod on the south coast (Lopez Rock, Big Sur-Montana De Oro)- beginning of May through the fall
Rockfish and Lingcod on the north coast-(Lopez Rock, Big Sur- Half Moon Bay)
Halibut fishing starts to get good right out in front of Santa Cruz mid May

I’ll regularly post reports on our trips and updates on the local bite on this board, so keep your eye out. A hot salmon bite can develop overnight, and dwindle off within a week, so being prepared is the key.

Book your trips now, as our calendar always fills up pretty quickly.

I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who came out on our trips last year, and to everyone who has helped me get my business off the ground. I started Central Coast Kayakfishing Adventures four years ago so that I could share my knowledge on kayakfishing the rich Central Coast fisheries with the growing legions of kayakfishermen in our area. We have now guided over 80 anglers on successful trips, helping them to safely and confidently tackle the fish and waters of the Central Coast from their kayaks.

To recount a bit of our 2004 season, here’s our big fish tally:

32 lb salmon-Moss Landing
38 lb halibut- Santa Cruz
27 lb white seabass- Jade Cove, Big Sur
16 lb sheepshead- Jade Cove, Big Sur
11 lb Vermillion Rock Cod- Pacific Valley
28 lb lingcod- Pacific Valley
9 lb Cabezon- Santa Cruz
And as many blue, black, olive, chucklehead and brownie rockfish as you can handle

TL, and I'll see ya out on the water

Make sure you watch the depth restrictions:

The recreational fishery for rockfish is closed to boat-based anglers from January 1 through April 30, 2005. When the fishery reopens on May 1, rockfish may only be taken or possessed in waters between 120 feet (20 fathoms) and 240 feet (40 fathoms) deep.

Spearfishing in the kelp should be world class after a few years of that!

Blast from the past post.  Wow.

Brendan.  He basically got run out of here for attitude about some topic.  I'd forgotten that he was guiding.  It was so many years ago.

It's been a long strange trip.   :smt004

Those are some impressive numbers. Just curious whether he still guides…

He essentially said "stay on your side of the hill and away from my waters unless you pay me to take you fishing." Not verbatim, obviously, but very close in so many words.

Think this is it: http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=19682.180

That’s impressive, especially for a September thread.

My favorite line (of the small fraction that I actually read):

What is a Sin Coast anyway?
