All,

I was just looking at my topo map of monterey bay and I noticed that there is a pretty decent peak about a mile off of the lighthouse in Santa Cruz.

Since it isn't really a secret, I'm sure that it gets fished pretty often.  It goes from 100-64 pretty sharply.

Has anyone fished this peak and is it worth the paddle?

Hi Molbasser,

Check out this thread from the sniffer board.

http://www.fishsniffer.com/cgi-bin/forumsyabb/YaBB.pl?num=1153185402

I'm Master_Caster. It looks like there are fish out there and I plan on checking out that area this weekend on the rented skiffs.

I've been lurking for a while on this board because I'm seriously considering an ocean kayak. Let me know if you want to go check out the spot this weekend. Maybe I can give you a tow or something.  :smt001

If you have room I could ride with you on the skiff, as I am between yaks right now......

I'd split gas and bring beer....

*edit*

Ah, I see your taking your brother....

Lemme know how it goes.

All skiffs are reserved for this Saturday. I hate it when SC boat rentals don't answer their phones for days at a time.
Good luck Sunday.

There's a nice drop off about 50-100yards north of the mile buoy. Say you are at the mile buoy looking towards Davenport or Natural Bridges, head in that direction. You'll see on the fishfiinder that it goes from 80something to 40something rather quiccly. I've caught some very nice fish there.

Santa Cruz is a West Coast city, but that doesn't mean the nearest salt water is to the west of the city.  Or that Lighthouse Pt. is to the north of the so-called Mile Buoy.

Not much to report for Sunday. Was late getting out the door which soon turned into being VERY late due to getting pulled over and receiving a speeding ticket. Once out on the water, my younger brother got sick so we went back. My 14 year old brother did hook into a very nice vermillion 18", but passed me the rod because he wasn't feeling well.

Later that even when we had it for dinner, he joked that we were eating a 250.00 fish. Kind of true when you factor in the rental skiff, gas, ticket, food, etc...

All in all though, a day (errr....hour) on the water is better than nothing at all.  :smt001
