Once again I made a trip to a kayak fishing meet. This time I travelled up to
about 5 half hours drive from my house.
This is copied and pasted from the AA forum in the UK.
Oh yes and rain in northern England is not like the stuff you get in California...its cold!

It was a fair old drive up from Kent to Yorkshire but I made good time and the traffic was pretty light. I arrived around 11:30 and put up my tent before going down to the bay for a look round. Runswick Bay is a very pretty village that nestles by the sea on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors just North of Whitby, I had a look round before bumping into Spud and Carpyken.

It was suggested we retire to the pub to talk tactics over a half pint of shandy ::) Not sure what happened after that Josey came in and we went back down the hill and then came back up. Meat was cooked on a barbecue at some point and I cannot remember going to bed at all. But I must have because that's where I woke up in the morning. I drove down the hill to the launch site and paid my entrance fee before listening to the safety briefing. 10am and we all set off.

It then began to rain, actually rain doesn't do it justice it was a deluge and just when you thought it couldn't rain any harder... it did.

By now the hangover was really beginning to kick in and I decided I needed to have a rest on the beach. I sat leaning on a rock for an hour feeling sorry for myself. :-[

I paddled back out from the beach and redoubled my efforts ie. from nothing to trying a bit. ;D I managed to hook a fish on a red gill....but it fell off. I paddled back fishless and watched the presentations. Jim managed to keep the southern flag flying , well done jim. 8-)

The evening was spent socialising and catching up with friends old and new. But with less beer, in fact I tried one hair of the dog, which did not work and then stuck with tea. :o
Next morning I set off again, this time sober. I still had no energy and felt wrong, I was in fact coming down with manflu as it turns out. And was quite poorly by Monday. :P
I paddled out further than the day before and tried various lures but to no avail. All I managed all weekend was a scraggy looking jellyfish and one mackerel.
But I must say despite my lack of fish [skill on my part] I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and thought the whole thing was well organised and relaxed from start to finish.

Don't ever let anyone  put up an outdoor  neon sign or anything of that sort in that village, (obviously would never happen, but anyway). What you have there is a treasure.

TM , hope your feeling better. THX for the pics., that is a cool looking village. Sorry to hear you didn't get any fish love ( double points next time ) That rain pic. looks nasty.
Remember to practice safe knots, because big fish don't just break your line, they also break your heart.
