Got a hankerin' for a staple snack...sticky rice, spam sauteed until golden, seasoned in 1 to 1 to 1 parts soy sauce, sugar, and mirin...packed into mold and wrapped in nori...any tips or unique touches, I would like to know...pics to follow... :smt006
Oh yeah...dat duh ono grinds.  I made those for my salmon trips.  Good salty snack and basically non-perishable.  I'm curious what your recipe is I used one off the net which was pretty good. And how do you keep the rice from falling apart?  I was using Japanese sticky rice and had to smash the shit on the press.   The next time I try I'll use a non stick pan.  Cooking the spam in an iron skillet, I found, gives you a lot of black char from the sugar.

I let the rice cool a little, maybe an hour...kept the mold in a water bath to help with less pull apartage...some call to press the bottom rice then add spam and top rice then press.  I'm gonna just layer all and do one press then wrap.  1/2 cup shoyu, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup mirin for sauce.  reduce a little and add sauteed spam in non stick for sure.  Gotta make more... :smt006

Musubi is a great snack for OTW and you can also use teriyaki chicken/beef and add omlettes.
Thanks...add egg and certainly chicken and beef... :smt006
Eddie, if you add egg and furukake it turns into a delux musubi. I highly recommend it.

There are several things I miss about living in Hawaii
Minit Stop Gas Station Musubi, Fried Chicken, and Corn dogs rank high on the list
I bought this Musubi Mold at Long's Drugs in Hilo (while it's really CVS, HI never dropped the original name)
Never had a problem with rice sticking
Made all kinds: veggie, fish, Kalua pig
Limitless possibilities

Being married to a Chinese woman..I learned that Spam is it`s own food group.. look out when it goes on sale  LOL
My wife does not care for the nori.  My chef buddy floated the idea of wrapping in Lumpia skin...I'm on it...a musubi lumpia rectangular shaped...still mental, yet, I see the light... :smt006

Hawaiian Power Bars. Perfect OTW grindz.

Island Tip #1. Cut the bottom off the spam can and use that for the mold.  Perfect size. Matches the  :spam1:.  Sand or fold the edge, it'll be sharp.  Wash and reuse over and over again, you'll have a mold ready whenever you get the hankerings.

Island Tip #2. Place the plastic wrap in the mold then layer the ingredients.  Makes for a quick wrap job.

+1 on the Furikake
