If fishing at Coyote or Anderson Lakes the place to go for grub would be Famous Dave's in Gilroy

Famous Daves has a great rack of ribs and variety of BBQ sauces on each table so you can smother the H out of em. Its over by the new shopping center off 152, first right after you go over the overpass east bound 152. Kimo

If you've been fishing out of Delta Meadows River Park----and I recommend it, it's a very nice launch-place for people like us----

Eat afterward at the chinese place in Locke.   Locke is tiny.   Only one chinese place.  No, it's not GREAT food but it's very competent food and you're going to be hungry enough to eat roadkill.

(Roadkill can be--usually is---primo....as anyone who's done it knows)

"The Law" says you can't take a hindquarter (or forequarter) off'n a deer...
Poor Law......it don't know no bettah......

Sharp knife (some would use serrated knife, but me never)....that quarter come off faster than your average Joe could say "gee whiz".......

The most important feature to have on a knife is a "gut hook."

"Gut hook" is a complete misnomer.......I have NEVER used the "gut hook" on my knife for anything to do with gutting.   A "gut hook" should be re-named "hide-hook."    You use the "gut hook" to split a large animal's hide.

You poke a hole in a hide with the tip of your blade......insert the gut-hook and HOLY TOLEDO you can guide that "hide cut" anywhere you want faster than you would believe.

Where you don't care about  keeping a hide...???....
Where the whole deal is just to get that hide OFF...???....yes...

You use the "gut hook" of your knife to quickly split down a 4-inch-wide ribbon....and then you grab the top end of that ribbon with a light pull.....off it comes.

Four quick cuts of that....???.....you've skinned 16-inches width.....
In seconds.

So if you are taking just a quarter of an animal...???..   Your first step is to cut only the "covering hide" into strips....and to keep hair and dirt out of the meat you make ALL of those hide cuts first. Then next, you pull off the strips. Then you go in and make the joint-separation........ and now you're walking to your car.

This tip....pulling a hide off in strips...???.....This is the ONLY way to take the hide off a wild pig.

And so fast.

BUT MAN........a hunting knife......a hunting knife that doesn't have a "gut hook" on the top side of the blade.........????......

The last word in pure function.
Wouldn't be without one.

Incidentally....until those last seconds of time when you are actually carrying that separated leg over to your car...???.....keep firmly in mind that you have not TAKEN anything from anything.

If at any intermediate stage in the operation someone should ASK you what on earth you think you are doing...???......

You will reply:

"I always been curious to see how badly a vehicle collision would damage meat."

Because....."the law".....does not place limits upon human curiosity.

No one can assert......beyond any reasonable doubt....
Any other motive....
Than the motive you state, to be the motive.

Judd

And there's an additonal fact that's kinda amusing:
The fact that it was roadkill can make even a possum tast good.

If your path takes you through San Mateo after a day of fishing, try hitting Jack's Prime.  Good hamburgers and the y serve beer.  It is a new place opened a few months ago.  GF and I have been there a few times, good food and sweet potatoe fries are awesome.

When I'm in the neighborhood there is place some of you guys might already know about up near Linda Mar. It's a little casual hole in the wall right off the highway called Nona's. Super fresh, killer food from a mixed international menu.

Awesome place.
