Title: Fri. 12-31-04 Coyote Pt.
Post by: kickfish on January 01, 2005, 06:46:40 AM
We (John, Joel and I) went out of Coyote Pt. 12-31-04.  Left the dock around 12pm.  Went around the harbor mouth to the rockwall.  Many shore guys fishing.  No reports of Sturgoen being caught.

I got a Leopard Shark (30") released after about a 10 min. soak of eel.

Started raining around 2:30pm.  Not a bad rain.  But it was down pouring when we were loading up the kayak at 5pm.

Joel got a 46" Leopard Shark.  That we were hoping it was Mr. Sturgie at around 4:15pm.  He got it on Herring.

Guys were throwing cast net and cleaning up on the Herring around the rocks.  A couple of boats were doing that and a few guys from the shore were too.

Ken

Stayed up late last nite so my dino op won't happen til Sunday. Hope to meet up w/ Steve, but haven't heard as of yet.
Your report + my PF.C intel has got us thinkin of Bucks instead. I know the tide isn't optimal, but I'm sure these rains have flushed some bait out or at least muddied up the water.
We'll be launching early, round 9am and heading for the Shoal, weather permitting. If you wanna join up, call me on my cel 415-235-8687 Sunday am.

correction Ken.....FORTY SEVEN INCH leopard shark........not 46  :smt013
It's my biggest catch on my yak so far.....I may just send the pics to Jeff Kreiger and let him know I'm ready to tango with the bigger boys   :smt120

It took me a while to get the shark on board - and I was glad I was using my Fish N Dive kayak instead of my Prowler. I got towed for a while (had to unclip the anchor) until I had him belly up on the side of the yak - my net was useless so I grabbed his tail and flipped him upside down. The extra stability made it easier to pull the shark on board. The shark did a "Death Roll" while it was on my deck a couple of times....VERY EXCITING / SCARY! Never realized how powerful these beasts can be  :kungfu

Ken - hope you can develope those pics soon / thanks brada!

Title: last year

last year at this time, many sturgeon were caught from shore around coyote point during a herring spawn.  and yes, leopard sharks are delicious, but the big ones have a lot of mercury.  when i was a "starving student" i ate more than my share.

Asians are immune to Mercury....we eat that stuff for breakfast....with extra MSG  :smt095

I gave the shark to Ken - I believe he's going to have it smoked. :smt025
