Craftsmen's Corner / Island Hopper Elec. Motor
« on: August 19, 2021, 04:02:35 PM »
Anyone here ever replace the speed control / selector switch on an island hopper trolling motor? I am cheap and am working in wiring in a minn kota speed selector switch but... I think there is a better option (other than factor) upgrade I can do myself.
Any experiance out there?

I do remember trying to epoxy it, but it did not hold no adhesion to the plastic / rubber.  My issue is the connector pulled out of the Male connector leaving the pins connected not much to bite in to.  I just remembered I have some really good 3M rubber glue at my shop we use it for mounting o rings to fiber reinforced plastic caps.  I think I'll give it a go.
Widow weld? Never heard if that. Last ditch attempt?

For those of you fishing the resivor, have you ever had any experiance fishing the yuba where it flows into the lake? I've heard rumors of big browns that migrate up stream in the fall for the spawn.  I always wanted hike it down stream off 20? Where it crosses the river to the inlet of the lake but I heard it can be sketchy there

I might have used epoxy.... I cant remember. I know bbn I've been playing with hot glue but it does not hold up.  I need a new CD but am cheep abd dont want to bite the bullet.  Funny thing is, I plugged it in hard with electrical tape last time out and it worked the best it ever did until it didn't water intrusion I figgure. I might just hard epoxy it and say F it the FF stays on the yak!. Thanks for the ideas not keen on splicing ooh! Just had an idea. I've got some acess to heavy duty heat shrink with glue I might give it a try.  I'll post the results.

Cool and thanks. Is my angle a symptom of going to fast, not enough weight, or scope / line out?

Wow! Out side of wat to many variables, I was figuring weights in excess of 10oz. I've fished 8-10 at OP drifting in15-20'+-
Typically fishing 30lb braid, single 6" flasher tandem hook rig on 6-10" bait.
Fishing at 50'+ at 1-2mph slow paddle w/ 17oz my line is at maybe at 45*+  catching lings and rock fish but not confident on the bounce. I play with my scope but figure I need more weight.
Thoughts?

What wt. / oz balls or torpedoes etc and speed. Are you bouncing when trolling and or drifting for butts? Mind you this to keep your line at relatively 90*
Thanks

Craftsmen's Corner / Shimano TLD 10 - Drag jerky jerky
« on: April 18, 2020, 08:53:58 PM »
So I asked a question previously regarding free spooling and got the answer now as I get ready to head out, and test the drag, the drag is very jerky.  Any thoughts recommendations or experiences with the rebuild / service.

FYI I was not able to rebuild the actual spool itself, I dis not have the tool to do dissemble.

Thanks

Not much at all rolled up a PC of heavy Emery paper and stuck it in the shaft Hole then put s small screwdriver in and spun it checked it with the spool and repeated Untill it went in freely. I might have over done it a little but not by much definitely take your time and check frequently The graphite is easily removed. Also check that the shaft key is not your issue first by removing it and the checking the shaft / hole interface (ha ha shaft/hole interface ha ha). If it is the key try installing it 180* if that dose not work back to the sand paper.
Good luck!

That was it! Working great now.  I found the same repair on another site but the symptoms were not explained as well.
Thanks again!

AWESOME :smt007!
Just tried the link and did a search, my same issue came right up! Gonna give it a try and report back.
FYI could be the graphite frame swelled tightening up the shaft / key hole.
Its like a finger in a butt hole! TIGHT!
Gonna have to open  er up abit!

Hey all, also posted on another site but I'm having issue with my TLD 10. I did a service on it (first time for me on a used reel) and now when I shift from free spool to drag, I cant get it to drop back into free spool unless I push the drag adjustment knob in or push the spool in.  Kinda weird.  Any one have experiance working on this reel?
