I didn't have near this kick ass of a setup, but I sold all of my brew gear for kayak/fishing gear earlier this year. It was a good call. :)

I'm available to guide/help out on the water if you need someone. I'm going to need to leave pretty soon after we get off the water due to previous obligations in the afternoon in San Jose. I'd love to help out, though.

Dude take it to BassPro or West Marine and do a radio check with one of their demo models. Just turn on one of their demos and set to channel 16 or whatever channel, then start talking into your radio lol...

Just another excuse to stop by BPS I guess.

Had to adjust the squelch on my Standard Horizon, too.  Do that first.

Redundant radios?  Never in my life have I heard of that.  Not a bad idea, I guess, but I have a hard enough time remembering where I put one radio when I'm packing up to go fishing...  YMMV.

Out of curiosity, what do you have your squelch set at, Tinker?

Grabbing another unit is definitely a possibility I didn't think about. Thanks, Eric.

Safety First / VHF Radio check
« on: June 25, 2018, 10:16:58 AM »
Hello all,

I've got a new Standard Horizon handheld VHF that I've only had out on the ocean once, but heard nothing on channel 69/16 for the hour I had it on. After speaking with customer service they assure me it's working because I get the weather channel loud and clear, but I'd like to know first hand it's receiving and transmitting properly. I live in the South Bay and would love to do a radio check if I knew someone else who had one close by (I know, never use emergency channels). Does anyone have any suggestions to test this thing out before I head back to the salt? Thanks!

Introductions / Re: Lake Tahoe Fishing Team

I've never fished Tahoe but really want to try there or Caples for mackinaw. My brother and I were planning on fishing there Labor Day weekend. Would love to pick your brain on where we'd have the best chance at a laker!

I put it on the calendar. Looking forward to it!

Wow! That is strong work! Keep it up!

Not sure how much help I was, but I'm glad you were able to nail it down and let me follow the progress. Let me know if you ever want to head out fishing!

Looks good to me! I adjusted my transducer to ride up higher in my hull and it doesn't look to have affected my side scan, so I'm a happy camper. I went out Saturday and got a big skunk for the day, so don't feel too bad.  :smt010

The side scan is really done a disservice when it's only given 1/4 of the screen, imo. But, to each their own.
